ELEANOR
I squinted at Alexander whose face suddenly turned awry the second I whipped my head to eye him. He puffed out his chest, and ambled towards our direction. In an instant, my body stiffened. His cerulean blue eyes pierced through me like a dagger, forcing me to furrow my brows in confusion.
Why is he looking at me like that?
He stops a meter away from the table, holding out two glasses of drinks in his hand. Staring down at me before shifting his gaze towards Ezekiel. Alexander raised a black brow while Ezekiel leaned his back in his chair, crossing his legs in front of him. The corner of his lips arching up into a smirk.
“Sorry I took too long.” He stated. Setting the drinks down on the table before jamming his hands in his front pockets.
For a brief moment, silence fell upon us. Rising from my seat, I examined his face. The firm line that formed under his cheek revealed his tightly clenched jaw.
I then cleared my throat before parting my lips for words.
“Alex, this is Ezekiel. I accidentally bumped into him earlier, when I went to the powder room,” I explained.
He focused his gaze on Ezekiel, and the latter didn’t even bat an eye as he also maintained eye contact with him.
“Is that so? What a coincidence,”
The corner of Alexander’s lips twitched, and almost immediately he darted his eyes towards Ezekiel who sat on the seat across from me, his shoulders relaxed as if he didn’t have a single care for the world. Alex eyed him from head to toe, pinning him with his intimidating gaze.
“That you bumped into each other again at such time I was… away,”
I could feel him exuding his dominance that barely seemed unnoticeable by those who stood near our table.
I tugged at my earlobe. The air starting to feel heavy as a sudden wave of tension circumvallated us.
“Oh, I wouldn’t call it a coincidence, Alpha.” Ezekiel uncrossed his legs before standing up and facing Alexander, who stood about two inches taller than him at a whopping six’ four.
I glanced at Alexander’s expression, and he pulled his eyebrows closely together. Glowering over Ezekiel who crossed his arms provokingly in front of him.
“Let’s just say, our meeting had something to do with fate,” Ezekiel added.
Alexander’s hands squeezed into fists, and his nostrils flared. His face forming a scowl.
“What do you mean, fate?” Alex barked at him.
A smirk tugged at Ezekiel’s lips. His head suddenly turned to give me a sideward glance, and as if out of nowhere, he winked at me.
It was then that my eyes flew open. Blinking at him in surprise.
Pulling my brows close together, I gave him a what-are-you-doing look when he returned his eyes to Alex, gawking at Ezekiel with tightly-knitted brows and veinous, clenched fists.
“I’m just saying, if you keep leaving Eleanor’s side, someone else might snatch her away…”
Ezekiel blew out a fallen strand of hair on his face before arching his lips upward slightly.
“Just like that,” He grinned. I could see Alexander’s body freeze on the same spot right after he stated those words. My jaw dropped instantly to the floor.
Goddess, does he have any idea what he’s doing?
He’s trying to pick a fight with an Alpha!
My body stiffened as I watched them stare each other down as though they were about to shift and pounce at each other the next second. I pressed my lips into a thin line. My enhanced senses didn’t spare me from hearing the distant, subtle gasps and whispers spreading through the audience not far from us.
“What’s happening?”
“Oh goddess, are they fighting over that human?”
“Everyone knows she’s not any more special than a mere omega, who does she think she is?”
The sound of my heart pulsing wildly against my chest resounded through my eardrums. I gritted my teeth at their insensitive, mocking words. Truly, it irks me that some people could have the audacity to talk shit about others they never knew to begin with. Heaving out a sigh, I shook my head slightly while trying to hide any evidence of my eavesdropping. Humans, as they believed I was at the very beginning, are not capable of hearing distant voices especially when they have been let out through a mere whisper.
I fixed my gaze on Alexander, whose eyes are slowly turning pitch black.
“Ellie, do something!” Ares exclaimed.
Before Alexander could totally shift into his wolf form, I raced to his side, forcing my legs to move, and lightly placed my palm on his muscled shoulder. Sliding my fingers down his sleeve before pulling him closer towards me.
