ALEXANDER

The food arrived at exactly noon. We finished eating our food in silence, then headed back to my car.

Opening the car door for her, I noticed her wear the same set of clothes as the day before. My brows furrowed. Lips pressing into a thin line.

Haven’t I bought her any clothes before?

She jumped in the car and I followed to the driver’s seat.

“Are we going home now?” She asks in a nervous tone.

Sighing, I glanced at her face. Her hands pressed closely against her chest, fiddling with her seatbelt.

“Not yet. You need clothes. I’ll buy you some.”

“Ahm, you don’t have to do that. I can—”

“No excuses.” And with that, I turned on the ignition and hit the road.

Eleanor fell silent, and I noticed her turn her head looking out the window. Her eyes glued to it ever since, not speaking a word.

I took a shortcut heading towards Linda’s clothing store. It’s the largest high-class store anyone could find in the city containing the most expensive and elegant pieces of Linda’s designs. All of which surpassed the other companies by sales. Interestingly though, she is an omega. An unusual omega who used to like wandering into the forest alone, without shifting into her wolf.

One night, her mother came to my dad. Muttering about how she lost her child. I watched her from a corner, wondering how she could’ve gotten out of sight. In our pack, it is extremely unusual for pups to think of running away. They find comfort within close proximity with the pack, knowing they would be protected. But Linda. Linda was something else. Her mother claimed she had searched for her daughter in every corner of the area. She had also told me her daughter tells her about her having vision and shit like that. I didn’t believe her then. I mean come on. A werewolf, an omega, having visions every single day of the month? I might just believe her if she was a witch, which she is clearly not.

Because of my father’s kind and compassionate heart as well as his love for each member of our pack, he had sent a search party for the girl. The search party worked for hours straight, until midnight. When they found her sitting on a high rock situated dangerously near to a mountain cliff, looking up at the moon and muttering, as if she was talking to the moon goddess herself.

People thought she was crazy. But others believed she was something else. Someone blessed by the moon goddess with a precious gift.

No one knows for sure. But neither do I plan on investigating deeper on it nor do I plan on giving it another thought. At the very least, Linda stopped warning people about her vision. A vision that foretold that our pack will eventually be facing the biggest disaster ever. A second war among the packs. I doubt it was even possible. All packs are now united through the Alliance. It is a symbol of peace, which was recently completed the day Alpha Victor sent me that letter.

After all that, it would be almost impossible for another war to break out, right?

“Watch out!”

Eleanor’s voice forced me back into reality, dragging me away from my thoughts.

“Shit!”

A humongous truck was fast approaching towards me. All hair on my body, including all those from down below, stood to their ends. I spun the wheel towards the right instinctively. Apparently, I was out of my lane, and we nearly crashed into that truck if she hadn’t screamed.

Once again, we find ourselves on the road. Driving within the right lane. Shock hijacked my lungs and body, and I couldn’t seem to breathe properly. The rise and fall of my chest moved at an abnormal speed. That was when I realized I was panting. My eyes frozen and glued to the road in front of me.

“Are you okay?” Suddenly, I could feel the pleasant warmth of Eleanor’s hand on my shoulder, comforting me.

I glanced sideways at her for two seconds before turning my head back to my front.

I couldn’t open my mouth and just nodded.

The word yes was stuck in my parched throat. A bead of sweat trickling down my face as I tried to focus on the road.

‘Get your shit together, Al. You almost ran over a fucking truck!’ Loki scolded.

‘Why haven’t you warned me sooner?’ I tell him, knitting my brows tightly together.

He groaned but didn’t give a reply.

I relaxed my tense shoulders. Scolding myself for letting my overthinking distract me from my focus on the fucking road.

“Please be careful,” I hear Eleanor whisper to herself. Her hand clamping the fabric on her chest as she peered outside the window.

About twenty minutes later, I pulled up right outside the store.

I got out of the car, walked around it to open Eleanor’s door. But when I got there, I couldn’t help but let out a low growl.

“Open the door.” I commanded.

Peering through the glass, she shook her head defiantly. After several more attempts of opening the door, I finally let go of the door handle, heaving out a sigh.

I know what she is trying to do.

“Please, I promise only to buy you ten at most.”

She raised her brow, rolled down the window and stopping it just below her nose.

“Lower.”

Sighing, I leaned my upper body closer to the door, resting my right arm against the side of my car.

“Fine. Five.” I mutter.
