ELEANOR

"Don't... leave..."

Stopping on my tracks, I whirl around, my body shaking as I did. I feel my heartbeat skyrocket as I sweep my gaze across the room before settling on his face.

What the—

He’s asleep? It appears he was just mumbling. But hell do those words hit me to the bone.

I crouch down and move closer towards him.

He was so handsome, I hope I could engrave the image of his face deep into my mind.

Sighing, I shake my head while I scold my stupid self.

Who am I kidding?

‘How could I ever forget you,’ I thought to myself, wishing I could utter those words out in front of him but obviously I can’t.

Raising a finger gently to his forehead, I trace his features one by one. From his eyebrows down his full, perfect lips, I let my fingers trail slowly and carefully as I feel every inch of him beneath my fingertips.

But then he groaned and I jumped in my spot, scurrying away as quickly and stealthily as I can until I felt my back hit the wall. The door was just within my reach located at my right.

When he didn’t move, I let out a sigh of relief, lowering my shoulders before groping for the knob.

Pulling the opened door, I peer out through the small gap. No one seems to be there so I slowly exit the room before giving Alexander one last look.

My heart skipped a beat the moment I saw his topless figure on the bed. Minutes ago, I was buried in that broad chest.

My lips curve into a sad smile as I force my eyes away my irresistible, god-like mate.

I got to do this.

Instead of dwelling on the disturbing feeling creeping into my chest, I finally close the door before looking around for possible witnesses of my departure.

Seeing that there was none, I heaved out a sharp breath then trudged down the staircase. It was eleven in the evening, most people usually retreat back to their own room while some werewolves prefer to stretch their legs and run into the woods, but only within the Red Silverwood Pack territory.

After days of observing the nightime routine of the pack, I was able to formulate a plan when the right time comes, and that is now.

Right down the staircase there is a kitchen two doors to the right. I noticed that a lot of people would go in and out of the kitchen through the night, and that is why I should avoid it at all costs.

Reaching the bottom of the staircase, I grip the wall and make my way to the back door. No one is in sight, which means I can continue towards my exit.

Taking a step to my left, I halted almost immediately when I hear a voice resonating across the hall.

“What did I even do to you?!” A gasp escapes my lips and I whirl around in searh of some place I could hide.

The sound of footsteps coming my way forced me to dart to the locker situated beside the kitchen door. It was huge and appeared to be where pack members kept their belongings. Luckily, I found an empty locker and it was open. Quickly, I dashed towards it before grabbing the handle and pulling it back inside.

For once, I thank the goddess for my poor height. It seems that being five feet flat actually had its own advantages.

Given the large space and my small body frame that easily fitted inside this empty locker, I was able to settle comfortably inside while I peek outside through the holes in the form of lines. I make sure to steady my breathing and mask my scent. If I remain calm I wouldn’t be noticed.

My eyes widened as soon as I saw Veronyka come to view.

It seems she’s been trudging behind Elijah. Her face contorted in anger whilst Elijah furrowed his brows, his lips pressed into a thin line.

I bite my inner cheeks as I watch Veronyka stare hard at Elijah with what seemed to be both confusion as well as anger.

As always, she looks stunning. Her sandy blonde hair waved down her smooth back in large curls. Her emerald green eyes sparkled every time she looks at Elijah. Now I know why.

When I look at Elijah, I noticed he’d always been looking at Veronyka the exact same way too. Whenever I see him glance at her, his eyes would always show hesitance.

Right now, he had his back turned on her, and Veronyka was looking at him furiously, her hands coiled into fists and squeezing.

Elijah halted in his steps, making Veronyka stomp her feet as she comes to an abrupt halt, bumping her forehead against Elijah’s back.

Grunting, she brings her fingers to her head and starts massaging her temples in slow circles.

“Why are you being so mean?” Veronyka’s voice now sounded croaky. I squinted through the small gap and saw tears have already welled up around Veronyka's eyes.

Elijah sighed, turning around to face Veronyka who’s been trying to stifle her sobs.

“Stop crying,” Elijah says in a commanding voice.

Wow, has he always been like this? I don’t know for sure but I'm positive he wasn't acting this way towards her. Especially when I first came here.

Elijah looks down at the sobbing girl, his hands clenched on his sides. However, his eyes seemed filled with desire mixed with sadness, contrary to the way his voice sounded when he commanded her. Veronyka doesn't look up and continues rubbing her eyes, sobbing.
