ALEXANDER

“Alex!”

I hear Elijah’s voice resonating through the background. Nevertheless, I quicken my pace and hop into my car before he can say anything to stop me.

Half an hour later, I arrived at Linda’s shop.

I strode through the door and scanned the shop, vaguely aware of how my eyes glowed when I saw her standing near a rack.

Taking hurried steps forward, I clenched my fists as my eyes fixed on her now-pale face. All her sales ladies staring at me gasped and clung to one another as I grabbed her neck, crashing her head hard against the brick wall.

She gasped, instantly clutching on my arm as she desperately tried to loosen my firm grip. Her big, gray eyes that looked at me with utter fear widened, brimming with tears.

“What did you say to her?” I growled while I squeezed her neck.

She looked at me with furrowed brows, probably in a daze.

“Al..pha”

It took me a moment to realize I’m already strangling her out of rage. But more than that, I was afraid. Not wanting to be consumed by my own fear is what’s making me more aggressive than I ever hoped to be as an alpha.

Sighing, I loosened my grip before banging my palms on either sides of her head. Trapping her so she could not escape from the questions I’m about to throw at her.

Linda drew in a deep breath, coughing out her lungs as she brought her hand to her chest.

Seconds passed and my patience is already wearing thin.

“Speak.” I say with my usual commanding voice. Being her alpha, she should have followed my order by instinct.

However, she didn't seem affected by my alpha tone at all.

Her blind, colorless eyes stared right through me and I stared back with a stern look on my face.

“I won’t ask you again, Linda. What did you say that made Eleanor leave?” My voice sounding cold as ice.

She knitted her brows again for a moment as though trying to make sense of what I wanted to say.

Just then, a look of realization fell upon her face, and she gasped before bringing a hand over to her lips.

“I’m sorry, Alpha.” She lowered her head as if she didn’t want me to see the look on her face after she realized my mate disappeared.

The way her eyes flashed with guilt affirmed me she knows something I clearly don’t.

Her lack of cooperation was starting to get into my nerves. I growled lowly before forcing her chin up to face me. Leaning closer to meet her in the eye. Indeed the woman’s blind from wolfsbane, but she has been using her wolf to see all this time.

“I don't need a fucking apology, I need answers. Now.” I say under gritted teeth.

Loki has been threatening to take full control, saying he can get the answers out of her himself. I know better than to lend him the reins and let him kill her before we get any of the answers we want.

I watch as Linda clenched her jaw, seeming unsure of what to say next.

Just when I was about to thrash at her yet again, she spoke.

“I can’t tell you.” Those words startled me for a second, but that feeling was instantly replaced with rage when suddenly, she lifted two of her middle fingers in the air.

“But I can show you.” She whispered.

I felt her fingers press hard on my temple. I jerked back, as though some sort of magical force entered my body, forcing me to close my eyes.

Just as I closed my eyes, I felt the ground shake violently beneath my feet. I instantly shifted in my position, trying to balance both my legs.

The earth crumbled whilst the sky faded into complete darkness. I shut my eyes thinking this is probably just one of my wild imaginations.

It’s not real. You’re just dreaming. It’s not. Real.

I tell myself over and over and over again until moments later, everything stopped. The faint sound of water dripping in the background reached my ears.

Am I back?

Get your shit together, Alex. You’re an Alpha.

Stand by it.

I clenched my fists by my sides. Prying my eyes open before looking around. My eyes glowed in the dark, and strangely there was a strong, metallic scent waving in the tense air. It feels too heavy, as though I’m surrounded by hundreds of lost souls, crawling towards me in utter sorrow and desperation. Wailing loudly in pain.

My blood ran cold when the strong, blowing wind brushed briskly against my build. I shrugged off the uncomfortable feeling and turned to look closer at my surroundings.

Squinting my eyes, I furrowed my brows. My heart racing a mile a minute as I watched my surroundings slowly morph into a place I fail to recognize. At first.

I feel my wolf stir within me as dread fully washes over my body.

Only then did the picture become clear.

I was in the forest. In a place reserved for battlefields fought and prepared for by different wolf packs in the past.

I remember this extremely well. The exact same place where my parents fought during the last war, ten whole years ago. The place where I made one mistake that led to their deaths.

The place I loathed most.

I let my eyes travel around my surroundings, only to find myself standing amidst frozen, bloodstained dead bodies of wolves who were killed during war. Each one of them retained their wolf forms, and their eyes have turned pitch black, cold and lifeless.
