Another of the men took his gun out and began shooting down some of the guards who had tried to escape. I put my hand over my ears, shutting my eyes when the sight became too much to bear.
After a while, it seemed the sound had stopped. I finally opened my eyes and slowly got up to my feet.
The sight left me dumbfounded. The bodies of the guards were strewn over the ground in gruesome ways.
I looked away, unable to stomach the horrendous sight anymore. The man who’d glanced at me first began making his way to me.
Judging by the way he had lead the team, he was no doubt the captain. I held my breath, not quite knowing what to expect. I didn’t know how he felt about anything or what might tick him off.
"Hello, Giselle. We got your call just in time." He greeted.
It was hard seeing his face with that mask on. He must have noted my confusion as he slowly took the mask off.
Now that I could see him clearly, he was a young looking man. There was a jagged scar that went from the right side of his face to his chin.
"How could this happen? I don’t understand why you just killed them." I voiced out.
It was hard wrapping my head around what happened. The more I thought about it, the more vivid the image of the dead guards burned in my head.
Did they deserve it? Yes. I just didn’t know how exactly I felt about the whole thing. The man had been watching me for a while before finally responding.
"The worst law in the werewolf kingdom is banishment, isn’t it?" I asked. "Couldn’t you just have given them that?"
The man seemed to think on it for a while. "We could have. But we’re not bound by werewolf laws."
I held my breath. There was a certain glint in his eyes as he spoke. He looked like a man who had killed many before and wouldn’t hesitate to do what was necessary.
"We have no qualms about decapitating anyone who stands to affect social harmony. Take rogue wolves for example. When we encounter them, we take them down immediately because we know the danger they pose." He explained.
I nodded my head, taking in his explanation. He was right about one thing. Those guards definitely posed a threat to social harmony. I didn’t want to think about what would have happened if the squad hadn’t showed up her.
The man had a kind smile on his face as he watched me. It made me feel just a tad bit safe to be in his presence.
He turned to his other comrades. "Clean this place up. I’ll take her home."
"Well that was the name assigned to us." He nodded, letting out another laugh.
Of course this was Haelor’s doing. Of all the names Haelor could have assigned to them. I would definitely give him a piece of my mind when we got back.
"I’ll call you Evander." I said to him, the wind making my voice come out lower.
He seemed to ponder on it for a while before nodding. "That’s fine by me."
I hummed contentedly, taking my focus back to watch the passing scenery. My gaze travelled to Evander’s back. As someone who belonged in that kind of squad, it wasn’t a stretch to imagine how well-built he was underneath all that.
I felt his breath hitch when my hands touched his waist slightly. "You’re in pretty good shape."
He wasn’t saying anything and his demeanour still looked calm. But his ears had gone tomato red. The sight almost made me laugh but I held myself back.
We eventually reached the Royal Academy. Evander helped me down from the bike and I hurriedly made my way towards the building.
Askhan was already at the door. His eyes widened in concern when his eyes landed on me. He hurriedly made his way closer to me.
