"Haelor told me you were in danger." He said exasperatedly, his eyes running over me as he tried to look for any injury or damage.
"It’s okay." I pointed at Evander. "He came just in time."
Askhan’s eyes glistened in realization. His gaze went to Haelor’s clothes and he chuckled. Evander’s face was stoic as he stood before the royal prince/
"He’s from Haelor’s secret army." Askhan noted, a small smile on his face.
I slapped a hand on my face. Of course Haelor would pull something like that. I had no idea he was actually bringing men from his secret army.
"Oh my God. Haelor’s a madman." I mumbled without realizing.
Askhan let out a laugh. He was probably enjoying the whole thing. I let out a breath I didn’t know I’d been holding and began to speak to Askhan again.
"What secret unit?"
Askhan’s smile dropped a little. The long pause was surprising. Was there something he didn’t want to tell me?
"I think it’s best if you don’t know." He finally answered.
Just when I was about to ask again, he interjected. "How did you come to see the Elders even after the shock you just experienced?"
I let the question roll in my head a couple of times, already knowing the answer to it. It was something I felt at the moment the wolves were about to attack me.
I turned to Askhan, my eyes burning with conviction.
"I felt my wolf."
Arthur sat at the table before me, his lips pressed into a thin line. He was an easy going man but today, he looked to be in his full appearance of an ‘Elder’.
Askhan had insisted on following me to meet the Elder. He’d said that he couldn’t let me pass through something so traumatic . Now before Elder Arthur, I could feel my heart pounding fast against my chest.
"Tell me everything that happened." He said, his eyes never leaving me.
I nodded and began to explain how I had almost been attacked. "I don’t know where it came from but I just felt that sharp pain on my chest. It hurt so bad, like I was about to die."
Arthur hummed. "So you felt the pain when you were in danger?"
It made me a bit happy to finally know the reason why I didn’t have a wolf yet. All this time, I’d thought maybe I was the one who was defective.
Now it had come to light that it wasn’t actually my fault. I wasn’t to blame for it. It was curse that had been targeted at me for a reason I didn’t even know.
"So there’s no info on it?" I asked Arthur.
He shook his head sadly. "Nothing so far."
I felt the frustration seep back into my bones. I’d been so happy that we found the reason and now it seemed like there was nothing that could be done about it.
"So there’s no solution to it even till now?"
Arthur shook his head again. I guessed it wasn’t easy on him knowing that he didn’t have any info about this himself.
"How the hell is this possible?" Askhan was angry now.
He’d been silent throughout the whole thing but I guessed he couldn’t hold it back anymore. I tried to put a hand on him to calm down but he was still fuming.
