“That’s the princess of the Luciano family?”
“I never knew she was like this.”
“Just too bossy and rude.” Another person shook his head.
“Bullying her own cousin like that? Unbelievable.”
I kept my gaze on my shoes, unable to continue looking at their faces but it was like their voices seemed to reach my ears.
“Maybe she’s not actually a Luciano.”
“There’s no doubt about it. She’s probably just an impostor. I mean, you saw that livestream.”
“I would imagine. Even her brother who she just met doesn’t like her. That should tell you enough.”
I must have been staring at the ground for a long time as my head continued to swarm with all their words.
Halven’s face contorted in anger and he went up to Cyrene. Just as she opened her mouth to speak, he slapped her hard across the face.
The whole room was stunned. He was too angry to even care about it. All his focus was on Cyrene who looked dazed from the force of that slap.
“How dare you pick on my sister?” He glowered at her.
She stuttered, trying to find the words to say but Halven’s intimidating aura rendered her speechless.
I looked up at the guests, expecting to see angry and disapproving faces. Instead, they were all staring at Cyrene, some of them shaking their heads.
The middle-aged woman who had complimented me before came forward. She glared at Cyrene for a while before turning to me.
“Of all the things you thought to do. I can’t believe you decided to interrupt your cousin’s homecoming. Unbelievable.” The woman shook her head.
“She really should have known better.” Another man scoffed.
I could feel something warm blossoming in my chest. The guest hadn’t chastised me like I’d expected. They were supporting me and putting the blame on Cyrene as they rightfully should.
And Halven had stepped up for me without a single hesitation. So this was what it meant to be loved. I couldn’t help the giddy feeling that filled my body.
“Take her away.” Haelor said to the guards, his eyes cold as he glared at Aunt Niamh.
The guards dragged her out of the room despite her yells and curses. I ignored most of it, allowing myself to bask in the warmth that was the love from those around me.
The party continued in full swing. I enjoyed most of it, treating myself to the delicious food and socializing with the guests that had attended.
Once the dinner was coming to an end, I felt the exhaustion slowly kicking it. Olavir motioned for the maids to lead me to my own little cottage. I bid them all farewell and made my way to the cottage.
As soon as I entered the courtyard, I felt the relaxation kick in immediately. I took off my shoes and began to walk around the house barefooted, taking my time to admire the whole place. It was more than beautiful.
I was still admiring the place when my phone began to ring. My mood soured immediately when I saw it was Froste.
I let out a breath and answered the call. “I’m only going to tell you this once. Leave me alone. I do not want you calling me anymore. Don’t text me. Don’t call me. Just let me be!”
“Giselle, I—”
“No. I don’t want to hear it. I was in love with you once. But I never said I would love you forever. So do yourself a favour and stop calling me. Fuck off!”
