Froste looked hurt by my silence. “So I’m not even qualified to be a friend?”
Seeing him so sad sent a pang down my chest but none of it would change what had happened today.
Agnrs had done all this because she liked Froste and probably saw me as a threat. This was all because of him.
I turned to him, glaring at me with the coldness that I felt. “Agnrs set all this up. If you want to solve my problems, then tell her to stay away from me!”
I didn’t bother waiting to see his reaction. There was no iota of worry in me for the attorney position. I didn’t care about it anymore. Askhan’s royal limousine was already waiting for us.
Without looking back, I went in.
Anger usually came to a calm over time. That was something I’d been told of recent. This one wasn’t going anywhere I didn’t bother trying to bring it to a simmer.
I wanted to find Agnrs. I wanted to make her pay for humiliating me in the worst way possible. Making her regret every daring to formulate such a plan was all I could think of.
“We’re here.”
Askhan’s voice brought me out of my less than ideal thoughts. We were back at the company building. I’d come here this morning with the joy that I was finally starting work. I’d never known it would all end up in this.
Askhan opened the door for me and stuck close as we made our way into the building. The inaudible gasps and sounds of awe that filled the room was already something familiar. I was used to the amount of attention that we got whenever Askhan was with me.
One of the workers immediately came up to us, bowing his head. “Welcome, my prince. Please come this way. We can’t just leave you standing like this.”
It was hard fighting the urge to roll my eyes. I looked around, noting them all falling over for Askhan.
“Welcome, my prince.” Another worker bowed their head as we passed.
Askhan didn’t look one bit bothered by their humility. The annoyance was still evident on his face and he wasn’t bothering to put on a show or even hide it just a little.
“Bring Agnrs out.” He said coolly.
The man turned to his colleagues, his face suddenly paler than it had been before. He nodded, and hurriedly went to get Agnrs.
“Who does she think she is to just soil the boss’ name?”
I ignored their words, focusing on the woman before me. She still had that innocent look in her eyes, like she couldn’t even hurt a fly.
“I don’t understand what you mean. Believe me, I never orchestrated any plan against you, Giselle. Like you said, what do I stand to gain by doing that?”
“It’s just like I said,” One of the workers pointed at me.
“She’s just trying to use Askhan’s influence to bully others,” Another one whispered.
They continued to talk and point at me but I wasn’t fazed by any of them. All my focus was on the witch before me who was still feigning ignorance about all I’d said.
“How dare they talk about you that way?” Askhan sounded pissed.
I put a hand on his arm, trying to calm him down. There was no point in trying to silence their gossip. They’d continue even if we left. I came here for the woman before me and I wasn’t done with her just yet.
