“Askhan is my good friend,” I said to Agnrs, “Of course he’s helping me.”
I turned to look at the crowd, pointing my finger directly at her. “This woman bribed two wrongdoers to try extort me in public. She did all this just because she wanted Froste yet she still has the audacity to act hypocritical.”
The workers all looked stunned, turning each other while trying to contain the look of surprise on their faces.
Agnrs elegant and composed façade started to crumble. She looked like a deer caught in headlight. It was only briefly, as she tried to act composed again.
“Then why don’t you admit that you know Froste?”
I laughed, shaking my head. “Froste? Give me a break. He’s just a man I toyed with. I didn’t think it’d be worth mentioning.”
Just then, footsteps echoed through the room. I craned my head to see Froste walking into the room. He had a look of sadness in his eyes as he made his way towards us.
I had a feeling he had heard what I said. A part of me felt guilty about the words I’d used. Maybe I should have toned it down a little.
I pushed the guilt down to furthest depths of my mind. Seeing that Froste was here, Agnrs switched to another act.
Tears started to fall down her cheeks as she clung to Froste’s arm. Froste looked confused, looking at her then at us.
“I’m so glad you’re here,” she cried, “Giselle just came into the company and started slandering my name. Can you imagine that? After everything I did for her, that’s how she chose to repay me. I gave her a job here when she needed one, yet this is how she decided to repay my good deed.”
I half-expected Froste to immediately side with her, maybe berate me for choosing to treat her this way.
What I didn’t expect was for him to slowly pull away from her. His gaze was unreadable as he looked down at her.
She looked shocked herself that he had pulled away from her. Froste shook his head, a small chuckle leaving his lips.
“Did you really think I’d stand by you over Giselle even after all you did?” His eyes narrowed on her.
He looked like he was still hurt by what I’d said earlier but surprisingly he was standing by me. He was choosing me over her, supporting me despite what would have been expected. I didn’t know how to feel about it.
“I know everything you did, Agnrs, so cut the innocent act.” Froste gave it to her straight.
“I don’t understand,” she sniffled, “I—”
“I’m going to ask you one thing and you’ll give me the truthful answer.” He glared down at her. “Why did you send those people to extort Giselle?”
Agnrs wiped at her eyes, trying to come up with something to say. Froste’s eyes narrowed on her even more.
“There’s no way that’s actually true.”
“The boss would never do such a thing.”
“Right?”
“She needs to sue for defamation of character.”
“Agreed. File a law suit against this group of liars.”
A nobleman stepped forward from the crowd. He had a look of displeasure on his face as he stopped just a little bit away from us.
His glance flickered to Agnrs who was still sporting that innocent look on her face. The man looked angry as he pointed at us.
“How dare you three come here and think you can bully Agnrs, huh? She’s been nothing but a sweet woman to me since I’ve known her. Don’t think I’ll just stay silent while you harass her.”
I looked at Agnrs who still had the guts to act scared.
“Speak up. Tell him everything you did!”
