Rebecca's pov
I ignored him and slowed down my steps so he could be ahead and I'd follow behind trying to see if I detected any members of the dragons.
When I hadn't spotted one I continued to follow Nate's footsteps, still keeping an eye out in case there was an attack. I was certain that Robert will be coming for Mirala or whatever her name was. If she was associated with one of his partners, who died then there was no way she could escape him.
Nate stops before the reception desk and leans forward. His muscles bunch up and make his uniform look extra tight. I was lying when I had called him puny yesterday, he was anything but. It was just a way to deflate his ego, one I think was too big.
He wasn't necessarily buff but his body was toned in the right places. You could tell he worked out a lot judging by how his muscles were. He was sexy I'll admit but never to him. I had seen many hot guys before, he won't tempt me to let my guard down, besides I hated the guy.
I guess I wasn't the only one ogling at his toned arms because the majority of the hospital staff were entranced by his sight and sadly I had fallen into that category.
"Morning ladies, I'm looking for Miranda Costilo, I have to ask her some questions. Can you by any chance point me to her room?" He questions. His voice was deep and soothing and I was sure that he had done it on purpose.
The two women behind the desk nods quickly and scramble to the computer and started to type in something. The one to the left looks up quickly and opens her mouth to speak. "Room 304 third floor." She rushes.
The one to the right groans in disappointment and glares at her. I snorted quietly. Were they seriously competing to see who could tell Nate the directions first?
Nate smirks and winks at the two, and I swear they had melted to the floor as they began to swoon over him. "Thank you ladies but duty calls." He mutters and shows them the badge before walking away. I continued to look at the women not getting why they were swooning over a damn fool.
"You coming Ariel?" He shouts over his shoulder as he nears the elevator. I gritted my teeth as I followed him and entered the elevator he was already in.
"Took you long enough." He grumbles and presses the number for the third floor. The doors closed and now it was just the two of us in awkward silence. I could feel his eyes on me and I lift my head to stare at him and instantly our gazes locked.
I didn't know how long we stared at each other but the dinging sound of the elevator removes us from our little trance. The doors open and we got out, both of us avoiding to speak about what just happened. Although I had known clue.
He spots room 304 and walks over to it with me right beside him, making sure to keep some distance between us. Still a little confused by what happened earlier and I'm sure he had the same thoughts that were running through my head right now. He gives the door a knock and opens it when a soft feminine voice tells him to come in.
"Hey Blondie, you're awake so early?" He teases and enters. He goes to close the door but I push it open and step in, scowling at his back. Did he seriously forget that I was here?
I close the door softly and faced the woman he was speaking to. She was beautiful and by the way Nate stared at her I knew he was attracted to her. And I didn't know how to feel about that because a sudden hot rage of jealousy passes over me.
She lets out a quiet laugh, her voice so soft and feminine it could almost be confused for one of a child's. "Good morning officer Nate and-" She starts saying but stops when she realizes she doesn't know my name.
She was hooked on something that looked like an IV and she itches where they had attached it to her skin. At hearing her words Nate turns around quickly and looks at me before removing his eyes away.
"Miranda, this is my partner Ariel she's filling in for José for the time being." He responds and walked up to her bed. I didn't even bother to correct him.
He places his arm on hers gently. My gut stirs at the sight and I remove my eyes away from the two. "How are you feeling?" He asked her softly.
