Waking up with heavy hearts, a white familiar ceiling greeted me. Followed by the flashes of a scene of explosions and burned buildings, as well as the ashes of Kendra’s body in front of me. I can feel the sweat slowly dripping down from my forehead, I heaved a deep breath to calm myself.

It was just a dream, right? Taken aback by the sound of footsteps entering the room, I quickly shifted my gaze to him.

“I’ll go home Coleman, I have to find Kendra,” I uttered and stands up.

“Kendra is gone, Jada.” I froze and didn’t move a bit.

“It’s not a good joke Coleman.”

“Jada.”

This time I look at him.

“It was just a dream. Kendra’s alive.” I firmly stated and walk to get my phone. My eyes were pierced on my phone’s lock screen, where was the picture of the three of us, this is my twentieth birthday and one of the most memorable days of my life. My lips rose and touch it as it refreshes from my memory.

“She’s dead.” My smile slowly fades as the man from behind speaks.

“Shut the f*ck up!” I closed my fist and run towards up, I was about to punch him but my arms got stuck in the air as he hold them tightly.

“Stop this nonsense, Jada. Kendra is dead.”

“N-no.” My voice breaks followed by the tears that seemed awaits for their fall. I closed my eyes to stop myself from crying in front of him, but I regretted it when Kendra’s face flashes.

“That's not true!” I run outside of the cabin until my feet felt numb and brought me in front of the blue sea. My knees feel onto the sand as I watch how waves give serenity to the sea, yet not enough to calm me inside. I was breaking that I don’t know how will I be able to escape from this pain. My vision became blurred as tears manifested.

“You’re so unfair Kendra!” I screamed and cried. Hoping that she would hear me and come back.

I’m f*cking useless. It’s all my fault, I should have not called the police and break his rule.

“Please Kendra…”

I froze when I saw an image of her from a distance.

“K-Kendra?”

I slowly walk towards her and wipe my tears.

“Y-you’re alive.”

“That assh*le doesn’t believe me.” I giggled and continued walking. And when I reached her, I gently touch her face.

“You won’t leave me right?”

The moment I reached for her cheeks made me stunned when she slowly vanish, shreds of tears follow.

Am I hallucinating? Taken aback when I heard a huge sound of waves and it was too late to realize that I was in the middle of the sea and huge waves were fastly approaching me.

“Jada!” A voice of a man slowly mixed into the ocean waves as my vision started to fills by the blue waters.

I tried to swim to get on top of the water but it feels like someone was pulling me deeper. My eyes widened to see Kendra’s face again under the sea which brought me, terror, as her face was full of blood and glaring at me.

“You should be blamed for my death!”

I shook my head and tries to speak but none escaped from my lips as the water quickly entered my mouth. I was running out of air so stop moving when I realize that death is after me now, she’s right after all. It’s my fault, and no one should be blamed but me.

I’m sorry Kendra. I closed my eyes let myself sink into the deeper part of the sea. Maybe in this way, Kendra would be able to forgive me.

But the moment I opened my eyes, a shadow of a man was diving toward me. Please don’t save me. This is the consequence of my wrong actions! I should be punished!

***

“She was diagnosed with a post-traumatic stress disorder, Mr. Coleman. Maybe the cause of it was her friend’s death as she witnessed it with her two eyes.”
