Damien had every reason to react with violence. Though he anticipated something close to this but he never knew that it would be thrown at him even when he was scarcely thinking of it.
Or could it be that Mr Colton knows something about him? If he didn't, then why would he fancy a stealthy attack on a poor civilian?
Damien was trying to wrap his head around it. Yet in the midst of all these strange thoughts which clouded his mind, something even more interesting came up.
After Mr Colton's instruction aimed at beating the pulp out of him, nothing came. If there was an instruction given, shouldn't actions succeeds? But he was waiting. Waiting for what would come next.
Soon enough, a strange wave of laughter came from behind him.
"Huh?"
Damien could fight that word out. It was something inspired by surprise. Given by everything which had just happened, he had no idea which part of it was funny.
After the laugh, the strong grips pinning his body to the wall lightened and he was let go of. He stabled his feet on the marbled floor, else he would had fallen under the abrupt drop.
He had the time to turn around now. He wasn't interested in what the office looked like. He didn't care. He was interested in what was so funny about what had just happened.
He saw Mr Colton, seated in a couch, his back to him. Damien took a glance each at the two bouncers who had just let go of him. They both had little smiles in their faces.
Damien was beginning to catch up on the fact. But he wasn't too sure whether or not he was on the right track.
He walked towards Mr Colton to the position where he could look the man in the eyes.
"I bet that was what you were thinking. That I called you to beat the hell out of you or to threaten you."
Mr Colton started. Damien had nothing to say. Perhaps not yet. He kept on the curious gaze.
"Make him feel comfortable."
Mr Colton called at the two men who helped Damien into a comfortable state; a glass of wine, had his shoes taken off, and his coat hung. It was something he never thought would happen.
PERHAPS HE'S NOT AS BAD AS I THINK HE IS.
Damien said to himself. He was trying so hard to look at things on the brighter angle.
"The first time I saw you, I knew that you would be someone of great interest. I could see it in the manner at which you spoke. Even though you looked wretched, like a nail picked from a garbage can, yet there was something interestingly weird about you."
PERHAPS HE IS. I WANT TO BREAK HIS JAWS RIGHT NOW.
Damien clenched his left palm.
"You were an eager fool who wanted a place in the world the first time I met you, but now you are the boyfriend of my baby sister? Why do I have to see your ugly face all the time?"
Mr Colton took a sip from the glass of wine.
"Perhaps I should have Steven carve out your handsome face. That seems to be giving you a wrong impression."
CALL HIM.
Damien wanted to say. But he didn't. He had no idea why he was holding himself back from being rude to this...
FAT STUMP.
Perhaps he knew why he was trying so hard not to be rude. Perhaps he was not willing to admit to the fact. It was a fact best known to himself and himself alone.
"Why does she call you uncle and father? I mean, what are you really to her? I'm a little confused here. I need to know who you really are to her so I could choose whether or not to respect you."
Mr Colton's eyes widened at Damien's words. You could tell that he didn't expect such fat words from the supposed lad.
One of the bouncers approached Damein,
"Do you want to die? Are you talking to my boss?"
He had gotten to Damien and almost held him in choke.
"Let him be. You should treat him as my in-law. At least until I think otherwise."
At Mr Colton's words, the bouncer stepped back. He couldn't continue with whatever he had in mind. Damien had a look of pity on when he gazed at the bouncer.
He was thinking of how easily he would snap the bones of the fellow and tie him up with his own veins. The bouncer noticed the contempt in Damien's gaze.
"You really want to die, don't you?"
The bouncer wished he could do something to the rude lad, but it was only a wish. He would be going against Mr Colton's orders, which he dared not.
"If you really want to know about the story, you should give your words."
Damien looked away from bouncer. Mr Colton's voice had a seriousness to it this time. Unlike before when he sounded chatty and playful, now his face tough and stern. An edge to his voice.
"I'm being nice to you now because my Sarah is. I have never seen her boast of a man to my face before. There must be something about you, which really isn't my concern, if you ask me."
Damien didn't know where the man was headed with the talk. He didn't push his luck. He was awaiting his turn.
"You would place her above your own life. You would treasure her like those statues of red gold. You will not have the freedom to think of it let alone have an affair with another woman."
