Evan's P. O. V.

Annie went home before I had the chance to offer her a ride. I was disappointed because I really wanted to see her. I decided to go over to her house.

But just as I was about to ring the doorbell, I heard her mom screaming. She must be at it again. I wanted to barge inside and shut that bitch up but that might make things worse for Annie. She was her mother so holds all the power over her.

But I couldn't just leave it alone. Every time her mother gets mad, Annie ends up with a new bruise. I needed to make sure she was okay.

I quietly walked to their backyard and hopped the fence. The kitchen was towards the back and the window was open so I could hear everything they were saying.

"You are asking me why?" her mom said.

"Yes, Why do you hate me so much?" Annie asked. She was already sobbing.

"He left because of you!" her mom declared.

"Who?" Annie sounded confused.

"My boyfriend. The love of my life. We were in so much love. We wanted to build our life together but when you were born, everything changed. He stopped loving me and left me!" she said.

"B...but...how is that my fault?" Annie asked.

"It was fine. Everything was fine but then as soon as you turned three, you had your stupid eye condition and the doctor said you are going to go blind. I guess I started to pay too much attention to you then. I couldn't leave you alone for one second. It was all about taking care of you. I didn't pay attention to him so he started seeing another woman!" her mom's voice spewed hatred.

"But mom..." Annie started to say.

"Then he left me! He left me to be with that woman. I loved him so much but it didn't matter. It was all your fault. You are a burden on my shoulders. Why couldn't you just die!" she screamed at Annie's face.

I automatically closed my fist. Rage boiled inside of me. How can she say that to her own daughter? This woman was heartless.

"Mom please...he didn't love you. You don't have to hate me because of him. I love you!" Annie said desperately.

"You love me? Don't make me laugh. Go kill yourself so I don't have to deal with you anymore," her mom said in a mocking tone.

"You don't mean that," Annie was crying. I didn't know how much longer I could listen to this.

"And now you are over here, being useless and breaking my shit," her mom cried and grabbed her hand then dragged her toward the glass top stove.

I didn't like where this was going. I need to stop this. I tried to open the door but it was locked so I decided to break it open.

"Mom please, stop! What are you doing?" Annie shouted.

"Punishing the hand that destroying my stuff," her mom said in a bitter tone. She turned on the stove and waited while Annie struggled to free her hand from her mother's grip.

Fuck...that bitch is trying to burn her!

I backed up and slammed my body against the door, hoping she'd stop after hearing the loud noise I made but it was as if she was in some sort of sick trance. I slammed my body on the door again and it opened.
