Annie's P. O. V.
"So you are Helen's daughter. I haven't seen you since you were little," the woman in front of me said, who was supposedly my grandmother.
I couldn't believe she was actually here. I didn't think anyone would want to take responsibility for me because of my condition.
"I am Ella Fisher. I am sure your mother didn't have anything nice to say about me, did she?" she asked.
"No, she didn't," I said quietly. There was no point in lying to this woman. My mother never did have anything nice to say about her. But then again, she didn't have anything nice to say about me either.
Evan was sitting next to me, holding my hand. I blushed at the closeness of our bodies.
"And who you might be?" she asked.
"I am Evan. Annie's boyfriend," Evan said. Wait...did he just say he is my boyfriend? My heart did a little flip.
"Boyfriend, huh? Helen used to bring a slew of boyfriends in the house. None them lasted more than a couple of weeks," Ella said curtly.
"Annie isn't like that," Evan said gruffly.
Evan's mom cleared her throat. "Well, Ella. As you can see, Annie's mom left without saying where she is. Annie is a minor and she needs someone to look after her with her...condition. Which is why I contacted you. But if you don't think you are up to it, I am more than happy to have her stay with me," she said.
"That won't be necessary. Annie will stay with me. There are people in my house who can take care of her. She is still my granddaughter even though Helen decided to keep her away from me. I will spend the night at the hotel tonight then we will leave first thing tomorrow," she said.
Tomorrow? I felt an ache in my heart. I will be leaving Evan. I won't get to feel his touch and hear his voice again. At least not for a long time. I felt Evan's grip tightened on my hand.
With that, my grandmother left. She was all business. I didn't feel any type of warmth in her voice. Maybe that's why she was so distant from my mother. Not that it matters. My mother isn't exactly an angel herself.
"I am going to my room," Evan let go of my hand and got up. "I need to be alone," he said. His voice sounded gloomy. I knew he wasn't happy about me leaving and neither was I. I felt like crying.
"Why don't I help you get back to your room honey? I can help you pack," Stacy said and squeezed my hand reassuringly.
