CHAPTER 9
SMILE
NARRATOR'S POV
Harry was doubtful as he paced back and forth in his kitchen thinking about what he needs to do after what Avery has done to Lindy. It made him mad that she easily abused her own sister like that and how it bothers him that Lindy does completely nothing against her sister. He hates that she does not stand on her own feet and stand against her evil twin.
"I'm sorry Lindy but I am doing this for you." Harry mumbles to himself before he grabs his other phone and called his friend Mikey. "Hey man!"
"What's up Harry?"
"Yeah I got a favor."
"Sure, what is it?"
"Can you text someone for me? It's really urgent. It's for a friend."
UNKNOWN NUMBER: You might not know me but I'm your friendly neighbor giving you some fairly friendly advice that your daughter Avery Swanepoel is out on a party at John's place with her boyfriend Ted. I think she needs some lecturing.
"Good morning Button!" Lindy greets her adorable pet.
Button barks at her.
Lindy smiles, "Did you sleep well?"
Button barks again at her.
"That's lovely girl." She pets Button's head. "I wont be around all day because I will be in school but don't worry, my mom will take care of you."
Lindy just finished preparing herself for school while she brings Button with her downstairs. As she walks along the staircase, she heard voices from the dining area which was obviously her parents and Avery. It was distinct screaming voices and it worried her what could have happened.
"You always disappoint us Avery!!" She heard her dad screamed.
Lindy gasped and hurriedly rushed to the dining room when she realized that Avery was getting scolded. She reached the dining room and found her parents nagging at her twin so early in the morning. What happened?
"We told you never leave the house and yet you still disobeyed us!" Mrs. Swanepoel yelled.
Lindy was surprised.
"What if something bad happened to you last night?" Their father exclaimed angrily. "You were so drunk on a school week to think you're still 17 Avery!"
"Dad I was fine! I can handle myself! Ted was there! He could drive me home!" Avery answered back, screaming with anger.
"Ted? What if Ted wanted to do something to you because you were so drunk? He could've taken advantage of you last night! My God Avery!" Mrs. Swanepoel screamed.
Lindy had no idea what was going on but Avery turned around to face Lindy and she was fuming with anger at her own twin sister. Avery blames Lindy for what happened even though Lindy was innocent. Button was barking as their parents continued nagging at Avery.
"Thanks for telling, twin!" Avery rolled her eyes at Lindy.
"What?" Lindy gapes. "I didn't do any--"
"Shut up!" She cuts Lindy off. "You're always acting so nice to get sympathy from people but it doesn't work on me Lindy!" Avery yelled.
Lindy's brows creasing, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"You're pathetic and you're a liar!" Avery shouted.
"Avery!" Their father called out. "You're grounded young woman."
"What?" Avery faces her dad again. "Dad! No!"
Mr. Swanepoel placed his newspapers down on the table and fixed his glasses. "And why not? After disobeying us? You think we will let this one pass? You're grounded!"
Avery gaped.
"After school, you come home right away. No cheer leading practice." he strictly informed her.
"You can't do that to me! I'm the team captain, I need to watch over my squad. We need to practice every day after school. We have an upcoming competition! Mom! Come on, help me on this! Please!" Avery pleads.
Mrs. Swanepoel took a drink from her coffee and stared back at Avery. She was angry but she feels sad too and she knows she has no choice but to teach Avery a lesson. "I'm sorry honey, but we talked about this with your father. You're ground for two months."
"Two months?! Mom!!" Avery got furious.
Avery faces her father again when he told her, "If cheering was important to you, you should've thought about not sneaking out and getting drunk. You're grounded Avery. I'm sorry."
Avery moved her head back to Lindy and she knows Avery will do anything to her because she's as mad as the devil right now. But Lindy's purely innocent and she knows she didn't do anything that Avery is blaming her. Avery stared at Lindy angrily and stood up beside her.
"Happy now?" Avery spat and walked away while bumping her shoulder to Lindy's
"Avery that wasn't nice!" Mrs. Swanepoel called out to her but Avery left the house.
"I'm fine mom." Lindy said.
"Harold!" She thought.
Lindy tells her mom about Button, to feed her and give her water while she's away in school. She walks out of the house after having breakfast and saying goodbye to her parents who were still angry at Avery before she decided to take a bus since Avery had left already. She sat down on one seat while pulling out her phone from her bag.
Lindy: I told you not to text my parents! I even begged you not to! How could you?! Now my sister's so furious at me! Fucking thank you!!
After a while, she got off the bus and walked inside her school gates feeling all gloomy for what just happened in the morning in her house. Her thoughts were scattered but all that mattered to her was how to make it up to Avery when she knows she'll make her life even more miserable because of what Harold has done. Lindy knows Avery will never believe anything she'll say.
Her phone vibrated on her hand.
Harold: Let me explain.
Lindy: How thick faced of you to tell me to let you explain! You have absolutely NO RIGHT to get involved with my life! I'm not gonna talk to you ever again! I hate you! I really hate you!!
Harold: Look, I know I texted your parents but I didn't use your number. Just tell your sister it wasn't you.
Lindy: As if she's still gonna listen to me after what happened! I told you not to get involved but you did! It was not your problem, it was mine! And I wish you could have let me handled my own demons.
Harry: Lindy, you are not handling your own demons because your own demons are handling you. You are allowing them to belittle you because they can.
Lindy: You know what, don't even try to explain. I don't need it! You ruined my morning. You already ruined my day! It was the least thing of you to do, not to get involved with someone else's life! Thanks a lot!
Lindy walked started walking along the hallways all alone feeling miserable as she headed to her first class. She didn't want Avery to get mad at her because she knows Avery will definitely get back at her for this. Lindy also knows that Avery will never listen to any word she'll say so she is worried what might she do to get her revenge. Suddenly, her phone vibrated again.
Harold calling...
She turned off her phone and got inside her classroom with bothered thoughts. She sat down on her chair and was really pissed at Harold and mostly herself. She knows that she mustn't be scared like how Harold told her, she knows she has to face her own demons but she can't help not to feel scared at all. She knows Avery better than anyone else and she knows how capable Avery can do. She knows pretty well that Avery will get back at her for what happened.
"I'm so gonna kill you Harold. I swear to god I will kill you." She softly mutters to herself.
"Sorry the number you have dialed is temporarily not available." Harry groans as soon as he heard it for the nth time.
"Great she turned it off." Harry sighed.
He placed his phone down and stared at the street while he was taking a meal with Josh Devine, their band's drummer , and Lou together with her cute baby daughter Lux. He hasn't talked to anyone about his misunderstanding with his secret textmate named Lindy and does not know how to ask for advice this time. He knows he's confused for what he has done but then he only did that for her.
"Is your text mate not answering your call?" Lou teased while grinning.
Harry chews his food. "I mean, I didn't do anything wrong but she's mad at me."
Josh chuckles and shakes his head. "Women." Josh commented with a smile.
"Oh you don't know half of it, Josh. Spill it out Harry. Maybe we can help you." Lou smiles dearly.
Harry sighed heavily as he stares back at Lou reluctantly. "So her sister went to this party last night and her sister sort of bullied and scared her before she left the house not to tell their parents she was sneaking out." Harry started.
"Yeah, and?" Lou asked.
"Now, at the party... well... how do you explain this one? Umm... Okay, let's just go straight to the point. I texted her parents about her sister going to the party and now she's mad at me." Harry continued before takes a sip from his tea.
"Did you go to a party last night?" Josh asked.
"No." Harry answers.
Lou twirls her fork around her food. "You're worried that she's mad at you for what you did?"
Harry nods.
"Tell her you're sorry." She continued to say.
"She turned off her phone." Harry responded.
"Say it on TV." Josh commented right away.
"No." Harry groans inwardly. "I can't do that. You know how crazy my fans can go. I care about her. I really care about this woman that's why I did that but she doesn't seem to see it the way I wanted her to."
Lou laughs. "You must already be used to it Harold. Women are always undecided on everything and women always doesn't see the good side of something when they're mad at it."
"Exactly." Josh agrees. "Women!"
"Don't say it like Josh! It's not a bad thing being a woman. Try it sometimes." Lou teases.
Harry chuckles to himself as he stares at Lux beginning to mumble words. Lou tries to wipe her tiny rosy cheeks while Harry makes faces at Lux who is staring back at him with furrowed brows.
"No love. You can't have that. You're allergic to it." Lou tells Lux.
Harry sighs as he stares at his food.
"So what are you gonna do now?" Lou asked.
Harry shakes his head. "I don't fucking know."
