Chapter 96

Everyone glanced at the computer screen, but their focus was clearly elsewhere.

“Why is Mr. Whitmore holding a baby?”

“No idea. Didn’t the Whitmore Group go bankrupt ages ago? Mr. Whitmore…”

“Is it the same baby?”

“What?”

“Could the baby be Mr. Whitmore and Mr. Huff’s?”

Upon hearing this, Chester pauses in his tracks. The woman who had been speaking quickly turned her face away, but he walked toward her.

“Ma’am…”

The woman’s face turned bright red, and the embarrassment made her tongue–tied. Everyone else held their breath, wondering how he could overhear their whispers.

“Mr. Huff was just helping me with the baby. The child belongs to me and my wife. And for the record, I like women.”

Chester felt insulted on some level.

The woman’s face flushed even deeper. The moment Chester left, the office fell into an eerie silence that lasted the entire day.

Back in the basement, Chester took care of the baby himself. He placed the cradle near the door as he was worried about the air quality there.

Residential buildings surrounded the area, so there was a steady flow of people. He even moved his laptop outside and used an old advertisement poster as a makeshift desk mat. Meanwhile, Angelina had been working all day in the basement and didn’t see this.

She believed that if Chester could earn billions from designing, she would be able to tap into her potential, too.

But reality soon proved that some things couldn’t be rushed. The more she rushed it, the messier her work became.

By the end of the day, Angelina felt like she had made no progress but even regressed further. She flicked over the pages with annoyance and couldn’t bear her own designs.

The basement was dimly lit, offering no view of the outside world. It was already dark outside when she finally stretched and decided to step out.

A man sat by the entrance with his back to her and a baby stroller beside him. A laptop, a baby
