Chester rejected her offer without hesitation.

“Just take a bite.”

“No.”

“Please try it for my sake. I promise you that you’ll love it.”

After much persuasion, he finally agreed. As he looked at the hot and spicy barbecue pieces of beef, his already minimal appetite vanished entirely.

Pinching his nose, he put the beef in his mouth and forced it down, immediately following it with several gulps of water.

“How was it?”

“Terrible.”

He was suffering, but he tried to maintain a composed demeanor.

After the skewer feast, they walked home together, with Chester carrying the baby while Angelina strolled beside them.

“Oh my. You’re back!”

“Hi, Madam Bellfield.”

“Where’s your mom? I haven’t seen her at the market these days.”

“She went out of town but will be back in a few days.”

The area around their neighborhood was bustling and lively. As Angeline walked, she suddenly caught a familiar scent. It was blue cheese pie!

Chester smelled it, too, and immediately rushed to a nearby trash can to retch. A vendor on a tricycle had set up a stall with pieces of blue cheese pie placed on a plate for sale.

Angelina patted him on the back and asked, “Are you okay?”

“Let’s keep moving.”

Chester’s stomach was delicate. Even a hint of spice could upset his stomach. He’d barely managed to swallow that beef skewer earlier, thinking it was the most challenging thing he

could face.

But this? This was worse.

Angelina’s eyes lit up as he tried to put distance between himself and the stall.

“I want to eat.”

“Which one?”

He held himself back and didn’t stop her. She bought a piece of pie and dug in happily. For the first time, he realized how big her appetite was and how adventurous her taste buds were.
