Angelina was in a terrible mood because she failed to scare Chester. She’d imagined his expression would twist in fear or even jolt in shock, but none of that happened.

On the way back, Chester carried Catherine while Angelina walked ahead. She wore a simple white long–sleeved shirt and checkered pants, her hair casually undone, her steps slow and

carefree.

“Watch your step,” he cautioned, worried she might trip.

“I know how to walk! Do you really need to tell me?” She turned to glare at him. But just a few steps later, her left foot caught on her right, and she almost ended up on her knees.

He reacted quickly and reached out to steady her.

Blushing furiously, Angelina grumbled, “This is all your fault. My legs are still sore after what you did last night.”

Chester was stunned.

She felt embarrassed the moment the words left her mouth. How could she let herself say something so shameless in broad daylight?

Nonetheless, she refused to admit she had been distracted earlier because that would be like admitting defeat.
