Chapter 824
“Mr. Warren, Mr. Lancaster is looking for you, the woman said as she handed the phone to Alex. He finally pulled his gaze away. Answering the call, Alex turned and walked away.
Ellie finally managed to calm Betty and looked around. The long hallway that was bustling just moments ago was now empty. A chill ran down her spine, causing Ellie to spin around.
A tall, slender figure flashed through the hallway. Ellie didn’t even have a chance to catch a glimpse of the man’s face before he disappeared. Alarmed, she quickly picked up Betty and left.
Back then, Haley teamed up with a group of criminals overseas to try and kill Orion and get that formula. Although the gang was eventually caught, the leader’s older brother stayed abroad, directing things behind the scenes, and was still not caught,
It was one of the reasons Ellie’s uncle insisted that Orion’s condition remain private until his cornea surgery successfully restored his sight. He wasn’t allowed to leave the special ward or return to the Warren Manor to recover,
Ellie had helped Orion flawlessly recreate the data set, and aside from Linda, she hadn’t even told Alex the details. However, she wasn’t sure if Haley had implicated her before she died.
Ellie thought, ‘Haley is a sneaky and vicious woman, and just thinking about her makes me furious. I need to prepare for the worst and be very careful in the future.
Ellie wasn’t strong. Betty was taller and heavier than most kids her age. Carrying Betty was tough, but Ellie wouldn’t put her down.
As Ellie jogged around the corner with Betty in her arms, they accidentally bumped into someone.
“Ah!” The woman in heels almost fell over, but her partner managed to grab her just in time.
Ellie wasn’t so lucky. The momentum made her stagger back, and she ended up falling to the ground with Betty.
Afraid Betty might get hurt, Ellie cradled her tightly and tried to brace herself with her hand, letting out a muffled groan of pain.
“Mommy,” Betty cried in fright, trying to help Ellie up. She looked back and saw Alex helping the other person, which made her cry even louder. Hearing Betty cry, Alex let go of the woman he was holding and turned to see that the person who fell was Ellie.
Alex quickly stepped forward to help Ellie up. Noticing the sweat on her brow, his concern deepened. He lifted her sleeve to check her elbow, but Ellie pulled away.
Their eyes met briefly before Ellie looked away. She stepped back, picked up Betty, and comforted her, “Don’t cry, Betty. I’m okay”
“Mommy,” Betty clung to Ellie’s neck and glanced at Alex without any sparkle left in her eyes.
Alex bent down, picked up the lollipop from the ground, and offered it to Betty. Betty buried her face in Ellie’s neck, ignoring him completely. “Sorry to bother you,” Ellie said, noticing that the woman was standing there just fine. She apologized and left quickly, looking a bit flustered. Alex held the broken lollipop, watching Ellie leave with Betty. “How does she manage as a mom, walking so fast with a kid in her arms, like she’s being chased by ghosts?”
The woman glanced dismissively at Ellie’s retreating figure, not giving her any notice. “Mr. Warren, let’s go,” she said.
The woman complained, then quickly changed her demeanor as she came up to Alex, reaching out to grab his arm, only for him to push her away. “You go ahead, I’m going to find a spot to smoke,” Alex said, walking back the way Ellie had just come. His keen eyes missed nothing suspicious.
Ellie returned with Betty, catching Diana’s eye. “How did you end up like this just from going to the restroom?” Diana exclaimed.
Ellie held Betty without putting her down. “Diana, Betty’s tired. I’ll take her home now,” she said.
“I’ll walk you out,” Diana offered.
Diana began to stand up, but Ellie stopped her. “No need, just wait for Lacey to come back and tell her,” Ellie said and left with Betty. She didn’t want to worry Diana or interrupt everyone, so she kept it short.
Over ten minutes later, Alex returned. As he passed Ellie’s empty seat, his deep eyes darkened slightly. “Mr. Warren, Mr. Lancaster mentioned tonight…

Chapter 324
“Sorry, I have something to take care of and need to leave early.” Alex brushed off the woman and left the concert venue promptly.
“Mr. Warren, Dr. Thompson has also returned,” Barry escorted Alex to the ground floor late at night and immediately noticed Ellie’s car parked in the outdoor lot.
Alex gave Barry a look to say, I could see, as he got out of the car. After exiting the elevator, Alex’s steps led him unconsciously to Ellie’s apartment door. He stared at the entrance with a complicated look, lingering and lost in thought.
Alex lit a cigarette, leaned between the two apartment doors, and took out his phone to open Ellie’s chat on WhatsApp. He typed a few words, hesitated, deleted them, typed again, and deleted them again.
In the room, Ellie watched over Betty’s bedside. Thinking about everything that happened tonight, she still felt nervous and couldn’t calm down. She had a strong feeling that someone had been following her in the hallway.
Remembering the moment she ran into the woman next to Alex and how Alex quickly helped her, Ellie took a deep breath. Picking up her phone, Ellie messaged Diana to let her know she got home safely.
After sending the message, Lacey called. Ellie couldn’t help but remind her, “Lacey, today is Mark’s birthday. Don’t stay out too late.”
“Don’t worry, Ellie. I let Mark know I was going out. Someone’s with him for his birthday,” Lacey said, then hung up. Lacey was taken away by her friends backstage to meet Sebastian for a photo and autograph.
By the time Lacey back to the Grant Manor, it was already 3 AM. Lacey clutched her phone tightly, too excited to feel sleepy at all. Tonight, not only did she get a photo and autograph from Sebastian, but she also got his private contact info.
“Lacey,” Steven called out as he pulled his sports car into the driveway, “You’re just getting back? Where’s Mark?”
“He’s probably already asleep by now,” Lacey replied without a care in the world.
Handing over a box from the car to Lacey, Steven said, “I got back late today. Here’s a birthday gift for Mark. Can you take it inside for me?”
Lacey asked, “You didn’t celebrate Mark’s birthday with him?”
Steven shrugged and replied, “Nope, wasn’t he with you?”
Lacey carried Steven’s gift back to the new apartment, noticing from afar that the living room lights were still on.
“You’re back,” Mark said as Lacey entered, and Mark came over.
Lacey watched as Mark bent down and took slippers out of the shoe rack for her. She hesitantly asked, “Mark, didn’t you celebrate your birthday with your family today?”
Mark replied, “I’m married now. If my wife’s not here and I ask someone else to celebrate with me, what would people think?”
Lacey fell silent.
“I wanted to pick you up but worried you wouldn’t enjoy yourself if I interrupted.” Mark’s voice was gentle, which made Lacey feel a pang of guilt.
Lacey put down her bag and the gift Steven handed her, then took Mark’s hand. “Then why did you promise me that you’d spend the time with your family?” she asked.
Mark playfully flicked Lacey’s nose with his well–defined fingers. “It’s okay, as long as you have fun,” he said with a smile.
“It’s too late. Hurry up and go wash up and get to sleep,” Mark said as he led Lacey upstairs.
Lacey followed Mark up the stairs, her hand in his. Hesitating a little, she said, “Mark, you don’t have to wait for me if I come back late in the future.”
Mark stopped walking. “Don’t worry. When I’m with your family, I’ll try my best not to give us away or cause you any trouble. We’ll keep to our own lives, Mark reassured her.
“A friend of mine is visiting Jaslands. I might come home late or not at all for a while. If anything comes up, we can call each other,” Lacey said, a slight blush spreading across her cheeks as she seemed lost in thought.
At the top of the stairs, Mark released Lacey’s hand. Watching her shy demeanor from above, he didn’t ask her any questions and only said one word, “Okay.” Then they each went to their rooms.
On their wedding night, Lacey slept in the bed, and Mark took the couch. The next day, Lacey moved to the room next to the bedroom, and they lived separately.

Chapter 324
Lacey was probably too excited at the concert tonight; after all that cheering, her throat felt a bit sore now.
After taking a shower, Lacey went downstairs to get some water. She noticed a birthday cake on the dining table, untouched, along with a few of her favorite dishes.
