Chapter 325
Chapter 325
The next day, as soon as Ellie started work, Lacey showed up. Ellie took Lacey to her private office.
“You stayed up most of the night, so why are you here so early?” Ellie pulled up a chair for Lacey to sit down.
“I need to talk to Mark, but he wasn’t in his office, so I came to ask you,” Lacey said with a disappointed look,
Lacey hadn’t slept well and set an alarm to arrange a time with Mark for his belated birthday celebration, only to find he’d left early.
“Mark’s on a business trip. Didn’t he tell you?” Ellie asked with concern. Hearing that Mark was away, Lacey’s face went blank with surprise.
Last night, Lacey was so happy that she didn’t even help Mark with packing or seeing him off. She just told him to call if he needed anything.
Seeing Lacey suddenly become gloomy, Ellie couldn’t help but ask, “Lacey, if you had to pick someone to be your child’s father between Sebastian and Mark, who would you choose?”
Lacey was taken aback by Ellie’s question. After a long pause, she finally said, “I haven’t even thought about this. Why are you asking me, Ellie?”
“Lacey, I’m saying this for your good. Love and marriage are two different things. I hope you choose the right person.” Ellie leaned against the desk, facing Lacey sitting in the chair.
Lacey held Ellie’s hand, clearly anxious. “Ellie, I know Mark is a good person, and I like him too. But I like him is different from how I feel about Sebastian.”
Hearing Lacey’s determined tone, Ellie sighed, “Lacey, if you’re sure, I think you should tell Mark so he knows you already like someone else.” “Mark already knows I like Sebastian,” Lacey mumbled, her head drooping.
Ellie was speechless.
Ellie thought, ‘No wonder Mark always indulges Lacey. Even on his birthday, he let her go to Sebastian’s concert. It turns out he always knew Lacey liked Sebastian.‘

At noon, Ellie was on her way to the lounge for a nap when her mom called her. “Great, Mom! I’ll be back tonight!”
Ellie’s mom said they were getting together to discuss Aaron’s wedding details, which made Ellie excited.
But after hanging up, she looked up and saw Alex not far away, and her smile froze.
Ellie hesitated for a moment, but Ellie still greeted him politely, “Mr. Warren.”
Orion still needed to stay in the hospital for a while longer, so running into Alex was inevitable. A polite hello was the most appropriate distance to maintain.
In the hospital corridor, Alex fixed his gaze on Ellie and walked straight toward her. Ellie stepped aside. As Alex passed by her, Ellie headed to the lounge.
“Ouch!” Alex suddenly grabbed her arm, hitting the spot where she got hurt last night. Ellie took a sharp breath from the pain.
“You’re hurt!” Alex let go of Ellie’s arm, grabbed her wrist, and tried to pull up her sleeve to check her injury.
“It’s just a scratch, no big deal,” Ellie calmly said as she pulled away from Alex’s grasp. Alex was pushed back, and the atmosphere became instantly awkward.
They stood face to face in the corridor, Alex towering over Ellie, watching her expression intently. He moved his lips and hesitantly said, “Last night, I…”
“Hey, Dr. Zamora, Ellie greeted a colleague, interrupting Alex as she walked away.
Turning around, Alex watched as Ellie walked and chatted with her colleague, his gaze steady, before he turned and left.
After work in the evening, Ellie picked up her child and returned to the Thompson residence. “Hi, Diana,” Ellie called Diana for the first time, which made Diana very happy.
The family gathered in the living room, with two bright red gift registers on the coffee table. “Mom, Whitney, you both should start the feast and accept gifts. I’ll take Aaron on a honeymoon.”

Diana stood in the center of the living room, serving two cups of coffee to Joanna while announcing her decision.
“Hey, hold on, let me get your gift money,” Diana suddenly changed her address, which made Joanna and Whitney extremely happy.
“No need, I don’t follow that tradition,” Diana stopped them and placed a huge bag she had brought on the coffee table. She rummaged through it and pulled out dozens of bank cards, leaving everyone in awe.
“These are contributions from my uncles, aunts, cousins, and other relatives for my wedding dowry,” Diana said.
Speaking of which, Diana pulled out another card from her bag. “This one’s the dowry from my parents.”
She continued, taking out a few more cards. “And these are from my brothers and their wives.”
Then Diana took out another card. “This one’s three billion dollars I got from that incident with Alex.”
Next, Diana took out a card and said, “This is my salary card.”
Continuing, Diana took out another card. “This one is my little treasure in an overseas bank.”
Finally, Diana took out several property deeds from her bag. “These are part of my dowry.” The Thompson family was left speechless.
Aaron came over and neatly gathered the bank cards scattered on the table, placing them in Diana’s hand. “These are from your family as dowry; keep them safe and stay humble.”
Diana shoved all the bank cards into Aaron’s pocket. “What’s mine is yours, and what’s yours is mine. Keep them for me,” she said. The people at the Thompson residence were speechless.
“Diana, do you think your family will be okay with skipping the wedding ceremony?” Ellie knew Diana was rebellious, but the Grant family was well–known, and Diana was their only daughter. Skipping the family gathering seemed a bit inappropriate.
“I’ll decide after discussing it with Mr. Grant. I want to follow the customs,” Aaron said.
Before Aaron could finish speaking, Diana’s phone rang. She answered the video call, and several faces appeared on the screen.
“Diana, if you dare to elope with Aaron, don’t expect me to pick you up on the return visit day.”
“Exactly, grabbing the dowry and running off right away, you ungrateful person.”
On the video call, a few brothers were shouting angrily. “You set up over thirty traps and more than fifty crazy questions from the street to my doorstep for Aaron. Don’t think I don’t know,” Diana said.
Diana exposed them on the spot. “Aaron is marrying me, not going through a trial. With me around, don’t think you can bully him.” After speaking, Diana quickly hung up the call.
Aaron gazed lovingly at Diana. “Weddings are all about the fun and excitement; I don’t mind at all.”
“No way, you have no idea how unpredictable my brothers can be,” Diana quickly caught herself after almost blurting out the word ‘crazy‘ and just
chuckled.
Ellie stood nearby, her smile never fading. Aaron’s feelings for Diana were sincere and tender, while Diana’s feelings for him were possessive yet protective. They influenced each other and nurtured a harmonious and understanding relationship. It was rare and precious.
During the conversation, Aaron went to the kitchen to slice some fruit, and Ellic joined him to help. Unable to hold back, Ellie asked Aaron, “Aaron, Diana’s worried about going through the usual wedding process, fearing that the Grant family might give you trouble.
“She’s considering your feelings, but a girl only gets one wedding in her life. Missing out on wearing a wedding dress for the person she loves might leave some regrets, don’t you think?”
Aaron put down the fruit knife, his eyes filled with an emotion he’d never shown before.
Aaron said, “She’s so wonderful. I’m not going to give her a chance to have second thoughts about choosing me, and I definitely won’t leave her with regrets.
He added, “She can decide how she wants the wedding. I’ll handle the surprises.”
He continued, “Even though I’m not as wealthy as her, I’ll give her everything I have and more.”
Knowing Aaron had been planning everything in secret, Ellie felt at ease. She thought, ‘Isn’t this the best state between two people, whether in love or marriage?‘

A few days later, Aaron’s marriage leave got approved, and Diana wasted no time in taking Aaron out of the country.
Before leaving, Diana reminded her parents, Joanna, Jason, and Whitney to hold a banquet and collect the gifts. And so, even though the bride and groom were absent, the Grant family hosted a lavish three–day feast, practically overwhelmed with gifts.
Due to Jason’s special status, the wedding banquet at the Thompson residence was kept quite low–key. After it was over, Whitney was speechless by the sheer amount recorded in the gift list.
They had initially prepared one gift book for a few dozen tables but ended up using five entire books.
Most of the people who turned up uninvited were there to cozy up to the Thompson family; they quietly handed over their gifts and left.
At the same time, at the Warren Manor, Nancy looked at Alex, worried sick, and said, “Tomorrow is the last day of Ms. Grant’s wedding banquet. Are you going or not?”
Alex, wearing a perfectly tailored business suit, reclined lazily on the sofa. He indifferently replied with two words, “Not going.”
Nancy, pointing at Alex with anger and disappointment, scolded, “When the Thompson family was celebrating, I asked you to go and present them with a gift, but you flat–out refused. Now it’s time to go to the Grant Manor. You’re refusing again.”
Nancy continued, “Look at those who are about your age. Layton already has three kids, and even Aaron, who is usually so reserved, has gotten married.”
Nancy added, “You run around like a street urchin every day, and you can’t even manage to charm a woman. If you keep delaying, in a few years, you’ll just be making do with Rocky for company.”
