Chapter 326
Recently, Nancy saw Alex walking through the mall with Ellie, and she thought he might have a chance again.
But within a few days, Alex didn’t even want to attend the wedding reception at the Thompson residence. Nancy felt frustrated but didn’t dare to ask or say anything.
Ellie knew that Aaron’s wedding had taken place without Alex attending, but she wasn’t bothered by it. After helping Joanna and Whitney wrap things up, she planned to take the two kids to the new house.
In Joanna’s room, Ellie placed the bank card into the drawer of Joanna’s nightstand. “Since Whitney gave you all the gift money, you keep it for now. When Aaron and Diana return, let them handle it.”
Joanna sighed, “Ellie, most of this gift money was given with Jason and Whitney in mind. We haven’t even paid back what Whitney invested in your hospital shares. We can’t accept this money.”
“Mom, don’t worry. Mark’s hospital is already running smoothly and making a profit. I’m sure it won’t be long before I can pay back Whitney for her investment.” Ellie said with complete confidence.
Aaron’s wedding received such a large amount of gift money because of Jason and Whitney. Jason and Whitney had already done so much for Ellie and Aaron. Neither she, Joanna, nor Aaron and Diana would take it.
Joanna said, “Ellie, Aaron is already married. Diana is such a nice girl, and Aaron is also pretty reliable. I’m sure they will have a great life together.”
Joanna continued, “Leave the two kids with me. I’ll take care of them while you go live on your own and focus on your job.”
Ellie understood what Joanna was thinking. Leaving the kids behind and having her go alone was a way to give her some personal space, hoping she’d meet someone new.
“Mom, all emotions in this world can change except for family love. Raising the kids and teaching them well is better than finding someone,” Ellie said firmly, deciding to raise her children alone.
That afternoon, at Building Seven of Zerikith, Ellie and her two kids waited for the elevator. When the doors opened, Alex and Barry came out. Ellie and Alex’s eyes met momentarily.
“Dr. Thompson,” Barry greeted quickly.
Ellie looked away, nodding politely. Seeing Alex glance at the children, Ellie told them, “Say hi.”
But as soon as Ellie spoke, Betty pulled her brother and hid behind Ellie.
“Betty, Oscar, don’t be rude,” Ellie crouched down, gently reminding the kids to greet him.
“Hmph!” Betty turned away from Ellie, suddenly announcing, “I don’t want him to be my dad anymore.”
Ellie was speechless and thought, ‘Kids‘ worlds are the purest.‘
Alex stood up for Betty and Ellie at school, even getting into fights for them. Betty admired him so much that she gave him her most treasured gift, hoping Alex could be her dad.
At the concert, Betty eagerly offered Alex a lollipop, but he ignored her. Ellie tripped while holding her, and she noticed Alex helping someone else without a glance at them. From that moment, Betty decided she didn’t want Alex as her dad anymore.
“Ellie, your daughter sure has some wild ideas,” Alex remarked with a sarcastic snort, then turned on his heel and left.
Barry watched Alex walk off with a swagger and was worried inside. If Alex ever got his memory back and remembered saying such foolish things, he might stress himself out.
“Enough about him, let’s head upstairs,” Ellie said, leading the two kids into the elevator, ignoring Alex’s snide comment. Ellie’s daughter had a wild streak like hers–nothing was too far–fetched for her to imagine.
When Ellie found out Alex lived next door, she considered moving to avoid him. But then she thought, since they live in the same city and frequent the same circles, running into each other was inevitable.
Ellie couldn’t keep interrupting her life plans just to stay away from him. Seeing him without talking would save a lot of trouble.
Ellie had just arrived home with the kids when Lacey appeared with two large bags filled with snacks and toys for them.
The kids were playing with their new toys in the living room, while Ellie and Lacey were snuggled on the couch, chatting with the TV on.

Chapter 326
*Mark is back from overseas today. How do you have time to come over?” Ellie couldn’t help but ask Lacey, seeing her in such a cheerful mood.
“Mark said he was coming back with a colleague, so I didn’t need to pick him up,” Lacey laughed freely, leaning in to share some gossip, “I just saw Mr. Warren. Is he here to see you?”
Ellie paused for a second, shook her head, and pointed at the wall behind the TV, “He lives next door.”
“What? Lacey jumped up from the couch in excitement. “Wow, did he buy the house next door just to pursue you?”
Hearing Lacey’s exaggerated tone, Ellie corrected her, “He didn’t buy it to win me over. He was already living here before I moved in. It’s just a coincidence.
Lacey stayed at Ellie’s until the evening. “Mark should be home by now. I’m heading back, Ellie, Lacey said, timing her departure perfectly.
“Once you finish organizing, I will take you out for some treats,” Ellie coaxed her two kids into sorting and tidying up their toys as she took Lacey to the door.
Lacey returned home to find Mark showered and dressed, ready to head out. “Hey, Mark,” Lacey called, stopping at the entrance as soon as she walked in.
“Got you a gift; it’s on your dresser. Go see if you like it,” Mark said gently as always, and seeing Lacey frown, he playfully tapped her on the nose.
Lacey felt relieved when she saw that Mark wasn’t upset. “Mark, are you heading out again right after getting back?” Lacey took Mark’s car keys from the shoe rack and held them tightly in her hand.
“Just heading to the hospital,” Mark reached for the keys in Lacey’s hand, but she didn’t give them up. “When do you have time? I want to properly celebrate your birthday,” she insisted.
When Mark heard that Lacey wanted to celebrate his birthday, he paused. He looked down at Lacey, his thoughts unreadable.
After a long silence, Mark finally asked, “Lacey, if you had another chance to choose, would you go to Sebastian’s concert or stay home and celebrate my birthday with me?”
Lacey hesitated. Mark encouraged her, “Be true to your feelings; I want the honest answer.”
*Mark, can I skip answering that?” Lacey knew what she felt, but she couldn’t bring herself to say it to Mark.
“If you don’t want to say it, that’s fine,” Mark said as he took the car keys from Lacey’s hand. Being perceptive as always, he already knew the answer when she hesitated.
