Around nine o’clock in the evening. Ellie and Nalani, along with their three children, were leaving Earl Hotel after dinner. As Ellie led her two children out of the hotel’s revolving glass doors, they saw a crowd gathered at the entrance. 

“Quick, the big star Deborah is on a late–night date with her wealthy boyfriend. We have to get a clear shot of her face!” 

Nalani paid no attention to the reporters with cameras, Earl Hotel was the most luxurious and exclusive hotel in Jaslands, a symbol of status. 

Celebrities frequented the place, and she was used to it. She didn’t even bother to glance at the commotion, Ellic, however, saw Alex surrounded by reporters and onlookers. 

Standing beside him was a tall, elegant woman–the big star, Deborah, From afar, they looked like a perfect match, a match made in heaven. Alex suddenly turned his head, his gaze colliding with Ellie’s. His brow furrowed slightly as he pushed past the reporters, trying to get to her. 

“Let’s go.” Ellie averted her gaze and led her two children away. 

“Hurry up, we’ll miss it.” Two girls ran past Ellie, accidentally bumping into her son, Oscar. 

The volleyball in Oscar’s hand fell and rolled toward the crowd. The little boy broke free from his mother’s hand and chased after his ball. “Oscar.” Seeing this, Ellie handed his daughter over to Nalani and hurried to chase after his son. 

“Oh my god, it’s him.” Nalani saw that the person surrounded was Alex and a female celebrity. She quickly took out her phone and called her husband. 

Oscar squatted down to pick up his volleyball and was pushed down by the crowd. His small hand was stepped on, and he cried out for his mother. in pain. 

Oscar and several security guards from the hotel struggled to push through the crowd, and only then did they see his son. “Oscar.” Ellic squatted down and picked up her son, only to find that his son’s foot had been stepped on. 

Oscar cried, “Mommy, my volleyball.” 

Ellie looked at volleyball by Alex’s feet, held her son in her arms, 

and didn’t pick up volleyball. 

A group of fans suddenly rushed over, pushing and shoving into the crowd. She was caught in the middle, holding her son, with no way out. Because it was a sudden incident, the scene was once out of control. 

A male fan lost control even more. He presented flowers and forcibly hugged Deborah. Deborah screamed in fright and dodged into Alex’s arms. The man was kicked away by Alex. The cameras of the reporters at the scene were aimed at Alex and Deborah, and the flash kept flashing. Layton received a call from his wife and came out to take care of the matter. More than a hundred security guards from the hotel were dispatched to quickly clear the scene. 

The crowd dispersed, and Alex, who was protecting Deborah, noticed Ellie kneeling on the ground, holding her son. Alex let go of Deborah and looked at Ellic. Her hair was messy, and her shoulders were shaking slightly. For a moment, he forgot to react. 

“Ellie.” Nalani was startled by Ellie’s appearance and hurried over. 

“Nalani, my son is injured,” Ellie said, holding her son tightly and maintaining her kneeling position. She looked up to speak to Nalani, her face covered in tears. 

Alex looked at her tear–stained face, feeling as if an invisible hand was squeezing his heart, making it difficult to breathe. His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down, and his feet seemed rooted to the spot. 

“What are you doing?” Layton punched Alex hard on the shoulder. Alex came to his senses, took a step toward Ellie. 

“I’ll take you to the hospital.” Just as Alex was about to bend down to pick up the child, Ellie scooped up her son and ran towards Nalani’s car. Alex’s outstretched hands met only air. 

He turned to watch Ellie run away with the child in her arms, her figure full of despair. A sudden pain stabbed at his heart, and strange images flashed through his mind. He shook his head vigorously. 

Half an hour later, in the parking lot of the emergency building at Bondie Private Hospital, Alex leaned against the car door and lit a cigarette. Barry hurried out of another car. “Mr. Warren, we’ve found out. It was a message sent from Ms. Gelhorn’s private account that revealed the

Just then, Deborah also arrived in front of him. “Mr. Warren, I did film a live video, but I didn’t leak any information about you. I used my private 

account to post it, and I don’t know how these reporters got the news.” 

Deborah opened her phone and showed it to Alex. “I will pay for the medical expenses of those who were injured because of me, and I will apologize to them.” 

“Don’t bother them, I’ll take care of it.” Alex leaned against the car door, smoking continuously. 

“Don’t worry, Dr. Thompson. It’s just a flesh wound. With careful care for a while, he’ll be fine. A colleague of hers came out of the emergency room and explained the situation to him. Soon, Oscar was transferred to a ward. 

“Sleep well, baby. The pain will go away when you fall asleep.” Ellie sat by the bed, tears of heartache streaming down her face. She was also blaming herself terribly. 

“You stay here and watch over him. I’ll take Betty to Thompson residence.” Nalani didn’t dare to curse Alex until she was out of the ward. If it were her instead of Ellie, she would definitely make that bastard crawl on the ground. 

“Close your eyes, baby. Mommy will read you a story.” In the quiet ward, only Ellie and her son were there. Ellie pulled up a chair and sat by her son’s bed. She took out her phone, found a children’s story, and read it to her son. 

Alex stood at the door of the ward, looking at Ellie inside. She looked haggard and exhausted. Her voice was soft and a little hoarse. She gently stroked her son’s head with one hand and held the phone in the other, reading attentively. 

Alex stood blankly at the door, his feet seemingly unable to step into the ward for some reason. 

In the hallway, Barry worried silently for his boss. It was one thing to be caught having dinner with a woman, but to also end up trending on social media was another. 

He had just clicked on the top trending photo, which showed his boss heroically protecting the female celebrity while his wife and child were left sprawled on the ground, unable to get up. 

The contrast was stark and heartbreaking. Even as a bystander, it made his heart tremble, let alone the Warren family. 

No matter how quickly his boss tried to scrub the internet clean, so many people had reposted it that Ellie was bound to see it. 

In the ward, Ellie read one story after another to her son. Finally, amidst his cries of pain, he fell asleep. 

Looking at the dozen missed calls on her phone, Ellie slowly got up. Summoning her strength, she walked to the balcony and returned each call one by one. She assured everyone who cared about her that both she and her son were fine. 

After the last call, she leaned exhaustedly against the balcony window, finally feeling the pain in her body. She buried her head in her arms, remaining motionless in that position for a long time. 

Alex stood behind Ellie and tentatively reached out to touch her, but his hand stopped midway. He stared at her, his expression unreadable, and finally said, “Ellie, let’s talk.”
