Chapter 160
After dinner, on their way home, Rex thought about calling Reed Hardin.
But what surprised him was that Reed called him first and got straight to the point. “How’s the cooperation with Cole going?”
Rex: “…”
He replied honestly, “It didn’t go through. I was about to ask you for help.”
What do you mean?”
Rex explained, “I offended one of Cole’s technical staff, and Johnny is involved because of her-”
Reed cut him off. “What’s the name of that technical staff?”
Rex paused, a little surprised that Reed would ask this, but still instinctively replied, “Maggie.”
Reed: “…”
He took a deep breath and then chuckled. “So, you haven’t even finalized the cooperation, and you’ve already offended their core technical staff. You’re something else.”
Rex was about to explain that Maggie wasn’t exactly a core technical staff member–just someone with an- ambiguous relationship with Johnny. However, Reed didn’t give him the chance.
He said, “I can help with this.”
Rex immediately responded, “Thank you, old man!”
“… Shameless.”
“When will you be taking a break?”
Rex didn’t feel embarrassed at all about asking his father for help. He believed he could have secured the Cole project on his own with his strength, but personal grudges had gotten in the way.
He didn’t care about this personal grudge. Since he could use the quickest way to bypass it, why not take
that route?

Reed replied, “I was thinking of taking a break soon, but now I don’t think I need to. I’m afraid I’ll lose years off my life if I go back and see you.”
After that, Reed hung up.
As for Maggie, he didn’t want to bring her up. After all, when life goes too smoothly for someone, it’s not always a good thing.
After hanging up, Reed dialed Maggie’s number.
Maggie, glancing away from her computer, saw the incoming call and answered. “Uncle Hardin?”
Reed smiled, “You’re smart, so you must have guessed why I’m calling.”
Maggie: “Mm.”
Although Maggie had already guessed his intentions, Reed still asked, “Can you agree to the cooperation with Rex? Consider it a favor from your uncle, alright?”
Business is business.
In fact, as long as both parties show enough sincerity, even enemies can cooperate. And Maggie and Rex weren’t enemies in the true sense.
However, in this case, Maggie wasn’t in the wrong, and she wasn’t willing to compromise easily.
Now that Reed had spoken, she was willing to give him this favor.
But…
At that moment, Reed spoke gently, “Take your time, Mag. No rush. You can think it over and respond when you’re ready.”
Maggie: “Okay.”
Reed added, “As for Rex, just follow your heart when dealing with him. Don’t worry about giving me face.”
Maggie: “I understand.”
Reed chuckled at her honesty. “Good, then I won’t disturb you further. We’ll talk next time.”
Maggie: “Okay, goodbye.”

After hanging up, Maggie thought for a moment and then called Nolan.
Nolan returned her call about half an hour later. “What’s up?”
Maggie briefly explained the situation.
Nolan replied, “Reed’s favor isn’t something he gives out lightly. You should think carefully.”
This was Nolan reaffirming Reed’s reputation.
Maggie said, “Alright, I understand. Thank you, Teacher.”
Nolan responded briefly, “Mm.”
He didn’t say much more before hanging up.
It wasn’t until the next morning that Maggie returned Reed’s call.
When Reed heard her reply, he spoke softly. “Alright, Uncle understands. Thank you, Mag.”
Maggie: “You’re welcome.”
After hanging up, Reed sighed.
One of his colleagues laughed, “What’s the matter with you, Commander Hardin?”
Reed sat down. “I think I’m starting to want a daughter.”
The colleague responded, “We’re at that age, so don’t tease your wife. Your son’s already old enough to get married, so it’s time for you to focus on getting a daughter–in–law.”
Reed: “… It’s not that my son isn’t doing well, it’s just that he’s not trying hard enough.”
Later that afternoon, after receiving the news, Rex went to Cole.
Reed had already spoken to Maggie, and she had informed Johnny.
When Johnny learned that Rex had arrived, he kept him waiting for over an hour before meeting him.
Rex was indeed keen on cooperating with their company, as he brought a new proposal that was even better than the previous one.

However, Johnny still treated him coldly. He said, “Looking forward to a pleasant cooperation.”
ex shook his hand. “The sooner, the better.”
Rex didn’t really dislike Johnny, but he wasn’t fond of Maggie. However, he could put aside personal grudges for the sake of business.
He suggested, “It’s getting late. How about we have a meal together and discuss the cooperation further?”
Johnny smiled. “Sure, but Mag will be joining us. Is that alright with you, Mr. Hardin?”
Rex thought that Johnny had agreed to cooperate with him because Reed contacted Nolan, who in turn reached out to Johnny.
He didn’t care about Maggie.
Although he didn’t like her, as long as cooperation was on the table, he could put aside personal issues and just focus on the business.
He replied, “Sure, as long as Miss Miller doesn’t mind.”
Johnny didn’t answer but instructed someone to bring Maggie in.
When Maggie arrived, Rex thought her expression would be unpleasant, or that she might be upset with Johnny.
But when she saw him, she calmly shook his hand and said, “Looking forward to our cooperation.”

Alguém saberia dizer o que houve com o livro, sem atualização a tempos...
Nada de episódio novo?...
Does the book stop? When are we going to get a new chapter?...
Olá, A história parou no capítulo 288? O nome do livro me gerou mais expectativas, quando ela realmente vai desprezar os dois e brilhar???...
Everytime I read new updates I am hoping to see Maggie completely moving on with her life not always checking where Franklin is up to with Julia. I think everyone reading this story by now understand that Franklin doesn't care about Julia. So what is the point of always pointing out how indifferent Franklin is to Maggie and how attentive he is towards Julia....
What does Helen mean Maggie is still married? Married to whom? Franklin has made it clear that he doesn't consider her anything and is flaunting his relationship with Julia for anyone who has eyes to witness it.So Maggie should wait for the divorce to be finalized to date. Isn't that double standards. And Franklin is dragging the divorce deliberately since divorced or not he does what he wants without any consequences. Really women are emotionally oppressed even authors only know that point of view 😕...
I feel sad for Maggie and all married women who have to endure emotional abuse with no end in sight. By the look of it,Franklin doesn't want to divorce Maggie for whatever reason. Either the reason is good or bad, Maggie shouldn't be humiliated like this just because she loves him. And the grandmother should be helping her get a divorce not emotionally blackmailing her, if she really cared about her. Franklin is using Maggie's love for the grandmother to abuse her. Is really loving people wrong? Author this one-sided hurt is not right. Let Maggie move on with dignity. It shouldn't end up with Franklin professing his love for her and her accepting it....
