"Grace, you should go."
My heart felt as if someone had smashed it into a million pieces.
"No."
He chuckled, "You are so stubborn," he said smiling.
"I know."
He shook his head, "Grace, you don't deserve to be here, you shouldn't be here."
"You are here. I belong here."
"You belong with someone who can give you the things you deserve."
I shook my head and tried not to let the tears escape my eyes.
"Sarah, I want you to leave," he said with a straight face.
The tears rolled down my face and I backed away from him. He only called me Sarah when he was being serious. Did he really want me to go? I looked him in the eyes and I saw nothing they were emotionless. I could tell he was trying to hide his true emotions from me but it still hurt.
The last thing I said to him before I ran out of the basement was,
"I love you."
John's P.O.V
I sat there waiting for the council to determine what to do with Charlie. Morgan was squeamish in the chair next to me.
"Are you alright?" I whispered in her ear.
"These meeting freak me out," she told me.
"It will be alright."
"John, a man is being put on trail to see if he should be put to death. How can it be alright?" she asked, "Plus you aren't being put on the stand."
I put my arm around her waist, trying to comfort her.
"You will be fine. All you need to do is answer questions and then we can leave."
"John, you are the soon to be Alpha, you can't leave."
"Charlie's parents would not like to be questions so Morgan Davidson is first," James said reading off of a piece of paper.
Morgan squeezed my hand for one last time before she stood up and walked up to the empty chair in front of the council angled so that she could see Charlie. She sat down and looked toward the council.
"Now, Miss. Davidson please tell us what relationship you have with this man?"
"What kind of question is that?" someone shouted.
"We all know what he has done to this girl and her father!" another one shouted.
"Hey! Shut up!" Anthony yelled and the room went silent.
"Thank you, Anthony. Now, I know we all know but to be fair we must ask these question and if you disagree, well, the door in the back of the room," Mary replied.
"Morgan, please continue."
Morgan nodded and replied, "He is the reason my mother is not with us today."
The council nodded and they continued to asked question after question. I was proud of my mate. She didn't cry as much as I expected her to. She is strong. She cried when they asked her details about that day and about how Charlie attacked Grace and her. I eyed Charlie carefully and every time Morgan spoke he flinched as if her words were daggers that were being jabbed into him.
Towards the end of her questioning Morgan got frustrated and stressed as she saw how her answers were affecting the council and Charlie.
