Freya

The man in the fire was Titus, he was looking at me with pleading eyes. I couldn't understand why the fire was only able to burn Titus and why not me?

"Help me Freya," Titus pleaded, his voice full of agony.

"Titus, hold on, please don't give up," I cupped his face in my hand.

"I won't be able to hold for long Freya. My wolf is weakening and I won't be able to heal myself anymore," he whispered.

"What can I do to help you, Titus?" I asked in helplessness.

"Only you can extinguish the fire Freya," Titus was losing consciousness.

I was starting to get panic seeing Titus's deteriorating condition," How can I do that Titus, please don't leave me. Tell me how I can extinguish the fire," I shook his body to keep him conscious,

"You are the fire Freya," Titus said before his body went limp.

I woke up with a jolt, I could feel the fire around me, and though it was not burning me I was still able to feel its heat. I looked around in panic and found myself on a bed in the pack infirmary. Memories from earlier had started to crawl back into my mind.

Titus had left, my mate had left because his father didn't want him to be with me because I didn't have a wolf. I remembered my dream and was surprised about what it could mean. Why I had seen Titus burning and why I was unburnt from the fire? Was my subconscious playing some trick on me? Had it mixed up the Janitor's prophecy and Titus's abandonment of me and formed its own theory?

Titus had not abandoned me by his will, his father had forced him to and even I had insisted him to leave. I couldn't blame Titus for what happened, it was not his fault. It was my fate that had never been kind to me. First, it had taken away my wolf and now it had taken away my mate from me.

Mom was fast asleep on a chair beside my bed and the whole ward was empty apart from us. I checked my hand the doctor had removed the IV. If only I would have been like the other werewolves and had gotten my wolf when I turned eighteen, I won't have lost my mate.

I tried getting up from the bed, my bladder was full and I need to relieve myself. I was feeling exhausted, my feet were feeling numb and the moment my feet hit the ground and I tried standing on them, a wave of dizziness overcame me and my body swayed. I knocked a glass from the nightstand in the process of balancing myself.

Mom woke up from the sound of the glass dropping and shattering into a thousand pieces. I had dropped again on the bed, I couldn't understand why I was feeling so exhausted. It was like someone had drained all the energy out of me. Was it because of the mate bond? Was being away from Titus affecting me mentally as well as physically?

We hadn't rejected each other and we weren't together which meant that this mate bond was going to drain us of all the strength. I was not as strong as compared to the other werewolves without my wolf. Though I had Alpha blood in my veins, still I needed a wolf to be strong and to be able to heal. My chances of having a wolf had diminished more after my mate left because the wolves couldn't survive without a mate.

"Freya are you okay?" Mom asked with concern.

"I don't know Mom I feel like someone is draining out life from me," I told the mom in a helpless way.

"It's the mate bond affecting you, if Titus doesn't want you, he should reject you. Otherwise, the mate bond will weigh you down," Mom touched my forehead in concern.

"Thank God, at least your fever has gone down. You have been unconscious for nearly three days now," Mom said with concern.

"Three days?" I asked with shock.

"Yes, Freya you were out for three days. Your father and I had been so worried. Your fever was only worsening until yesterday," Mom brushed my hair aside which had fallen on my forehead.

I was shocked that I had been in an unconscious state for three days. It felt like yesterday when Titus had left along with his father. I should restrain myself from thinking about him, but I couldn't help it. He had left his mark on my heart and mind in a mere hour we had spent together.

I noticed the tube coming out from below my gown, it must have been attached to my bladder. Why didn't I noticed it earlier when I woke up? My mind was not in the right state and I didn't know what I was supposed to do after today?
