"-I am sorry for your loss." I didn't catch the first half of his sentence as he hangs up the phone. I sit there is Felix's chair not sure what I am meant to be feeling. I don't know how long I am sitting there before I feel Conner come into the room.

"Clare we have been waiting-" I look up at Conner who is smiling. The moment he sees me his smile drops and he rushes over to me grabbing my face into his hands.

"What's wrong Clare?" I stare at him as if he isn't there.

"My mother is dead." My voice is flat as I stare off into the distance.

"My mother is dead." I repeat again as if saying it makes it feel real.

"I am so sorry Clare." Conner pulls me into his arms and that is when I break down. Begin in Conner's arms makes it real as I cry.

Later that night Conner took me to bed making sure I was taken care of. I never did end up attending my mother's funeral as I just couldn't go back. My father understood that even if it broke his heart that I couldn't be there.

Felix decided to put together a traditional wolf funeral for my mother at home. Most people in the pack knew my mother was dying and they were all there to support me. We all gathered in the back yard where a bon fire was set up. I remember crying as Felix talked about my mother even if he only met her once.

I wanted to get up there and say something, but I was to upset so Conner spoke on behalf of both us.

The third year was the year it finally happened. I allowed Conner to mark me. It was during the summer after Grace's 4th birthday.

We were sitting around the bon fire with the rest of the pack. I was in Conner's lap as he kept his arms tightly around me. We were laughing at Karen and Lucy's mates who they found last year who also happened to be twins. They were telling a story of the troubles they used to get up too which had us all laughing almost in tears

"I hope our twins aren't going be terrors like that." Lucy says as she rubs her growing stomach. I look at her in envy as Max, Lucy's mate puts his hands on her stomach rubbing slow and gentle circles. I try to hold back the tears at the sight knowing that I will never get to experience that with Conner.
