Nathalie was gearing up to visit Lincoln, the one person in the world she shared a blood bond with. She felt a bit jittery, understandably so; being let down and betrayed countless times had made it hard for her to believe even her own father could love her without strings attached. But Lincoln was still out of commission, making her worries seem a bit pointless.

That morning, as Nathalie was heading out, she bumped into Miranda. Seeing Miranda ready to leave the house was a shocker. "Heading out?" Nathalie asked, considering Miranda rarely left home due to mobility issues.

"I’m thinking of visiting your sister," Miranda admitted, looking a bit sheepish.

Nathalie's brow furrowed. Lately, Miranda had been bringing up Greta more than Nathalie liked, and despite knowing Nathalie's disdain for Greta, she kept calling her Nathalie's sister, almost as if trying to boost Greta’s image.

Nathalie wasn’t having it. She felt downright repulsed. "She’s not my sister," she replied icily.

Miranda flinched, her eyes darting. Her humble posture was almost pitiful.

Nathalie shrugged off the interaction and made her exit, not wanting to get caught up in it.

Miranda’s gaze lingered on the trunk of Nathalie's car, filled to the brim with pricey gifts for Lincoln. An inexplicable wave of bitterness washed over Miranda. Nathalie, like her mom, was someone who poured her heart out when she cared, but Miranda had squandered their precious mother-daughter bond, letting it wither away.

Miranda let out a soft, resigned sigh.

Half an hour later, Nathalie found herself at St. Petersburg Hospital. As she stood at the entrance, the imposing building made her feel a mix of emotions. During her time in New York, she had walked past this hospital countless times without realizing the family she yearned for was right inside.

With a respectful nod to her elders, she stepped into the hospital. However, her excitement quickly morphed into anxiety when she reached the sixth-floor reception desk.

The nurse visibly relaxed. "And what’s your relationship to the patient?"

Nathalie recalled Nathan’s advice. If she hit a snag trying to see Lincoln, she should drop the name of Maple Corporation’s boss, as it was a name that opened doors.

Playing her hand, Nathalie said, "I'm with Maple Corporation, just here to drop off something for the patient per my boss’s instructions. I’m not personally connected to her. My boss and the patient are distant relatives."

Hearing the name Maple Corporation made the nurse's eyes light up. "Your boss is the one who took over the Dawson and Rowland families?"

"That's right," Nathalie confirmed with a nod.
