Regan scoffed, "That's just a woman's take on things."

Nathan cleared his throat a couple of times, which seemed to make Regan back down a bit. "The reason I called you back today," Regan continued, "is to return the share of the Stewart family business that originally belonged to your side of the family."

He slid a stack of documents across the table towards Nathalie. "These are the company’s operations and revenue details from the past few years. Starting today, you’ll need to learn to manage the Stewart family business. It's all on you now."

Nathalie, wide-eyed and shocked, looked over at Nathan. He gave her a nod, encouraging her to take the reins.

She picked up one of the documents and handed it to Nathan. "Can you take a look for me?"

Nathan shook his head. "No need. I have a hunch Dustin's saddling you with the most unprofitable, troublesome parts of the Stewart family business. But there's a silver lining—a mall. Sure, it's in the sticks and not making money now, but you can turn it around."

Nathalie felt like she’d been dealt a rough hand.

She shot a defiant look at Regan. "What’s the deal? You take the cream of the crop for yourselves and leave us with the scraps? You must think I’m a miracle worker."

Regan replied, "The Stewart family's in a tough spot across the board, not just your side, but ours too."

Nathalie had nothing to counter with.

Regan seemed to have said his piece and waved her off. "I’ve informed the company. You can start right away. You may leave now. I'm tired and need to rest."

With that, Regan leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes.

Nathalie had no choice but to leave.

Suddenly, Nathan stopped her, shaking his head in a silent warning.

She looked at him, confused.

Regan met his gaze. "Mr. Rowland, you’re barely keeping it together yourself, yet you want to take on more for her? Why bother? In this world, if you don’t look out for yourself, nobody else will."

Nathan shot back, "You're just trying to take advantage of Lincoln’s absence to push his daughter around. If Nathalie fails, even if Lincoln returns, he won’t be able to stand up to you."

Regan’s eyes widened. "Nathan, Lincoln isn’t coming back."

Nathan smiled knowingly. "Whether he does or not, deep down, you know the truth."

With that, Nathan turned and went after Nathalie.

Regan, fuming, hurled his teacup to the floor.
