When Mary spoke up, not only did it make Stella more curious about Cherise, but even Jagger, who was sitting beside her, seemed intrigued. 

Stella and Jagger hadn’t been sitting for long. They mentioned wanting to have a drink, but Lucas didn’t come up with it again. 

The reason for their visit was that Stella hadn’t been back home in a long time and she wanted to catch up with them. 

Since they had already seen each other and were in good health, it was time to leave so as not to disturb Lucas and Mary’s 

rest. 

Before they left, they exchanged contact information, promising to stay in touch whenever possible. 

Once they were gone, Mary turned to Lucas. “Stella has everything going for her. Why would she choose to stay single forever? 

“Back when we were neighbors, so many wealthy young men came to propose, but her mother turned them all down. I just don’t get it.” 

Lucas looked back at her. “Didn’t you just say that women who are financially independent and capable can live alone happily? What’s with the sudden change of heart?” 

Caught off guard by Lucas’s words, Mary became a bit embarrassed. “I was just comforting her. I can’t exactly tell her directly to straight up to marry some old guy because she’s not that young anymore. 

“Sure, the world is like that, but as parents, we always want the best for our children. My thinking is sometimes traditional, sometimes progressive. She’s amazing. 

“I just feel sorry for her. Look at Cherise. She’s got both love and a successful career. Anyone would envy her.” 

Lucas gave her a dismissive glance. “You’re always like this. But you know, when Mr. Walton brought his daughter along today, I got the feeling that there’s more to it than just the small talk.” 

“He’s not the type of person who goes out much, but for the sake of his children, he can make an exception.” As Lucas spoke, a hint of suspicion crept into his voice.

In the car on the way back, Jagger spoke slowly. “Did you get the answer you were looking for?” 

Stella nodded. “Yes, thank you for coming with me, Dad.” 

Jagger closed his eyes. “Mary is a bit naive, and that’s nothing to worry about. Lucas is different. Whether he’s suspicious, I’m 

not sure.

Stella didn’t reply, quietly gazing out the window. A few minutes later, her phone rang. She answered calmly. “Hello, this is 

Stella.” 

The voice on the other end said, “Ms. Walton, good afternoon. This is the Translation Bureau. We’ve received your recommendation letter. Please report to the Translation Bureau at 9 AM tomorrow.

“There will be an important meeting that requires your assistance. Before you report, you’ll need to go to the hospital for a pre–employment medical check–up.” 

“Okay, thank you for the notification. I’ll be there on time,” Stella replied politely before hanging up. 

Jagger, who had been resting with his eyes closed, opened them. That was from the Translation Bureau, wasn’t it?” 

“Yes,” Stella answered truthfully.

Jagger nodded in satisfaction. “Do your best. I have full confidence in your abilities. It’s a new environment, a new life.” 

At the Specialized Pediatric Ward in Betrico Hospital, Clara, who was lying on the bed, asked Hank, “Hank, I feel much better today. Can I go back to the orphanage? Can I go back to school?”
