Chapter 101

That student’s expression froze in shock. The president of the Walker Group, Aiden?‘ he wondered.

“Wait. You don’t mean that guy on stage, do you?” he said.

Payton watched as the tall, imposing figure gradually emerged onto the stage and smiled slightly. “Yes, that’s him.”

As soon as Aiden made his entrance, the girls in the audience went absolutely wild, screaming their heads off.

“Oh my.”

“Holy shit. He’s so handsome. Who is he? Who is he?”

“No way. Someone this hot is actually a finance tycoon? Quick, zoom in. Get a picture.”

“I always thought finance tycoons were just balding, middle–aged guys with beer bellies. But this is like a CEO straight out of a romance novel. He’s way too handsome.”

‘A–Aiden?‘ Valerie thought in disbelief. Valerie suddenly choked on her own saliva and broke into a violent coughing fit.

Suddenly, Valerie recalled that morning when she woke up–Aiden was casually leaning against the headboard and said to her, “Let’s go together.”

‘I didn’t get it at the time, but now it hits me—was he actually asking me to wait for him so we could go to school together?‘ she wondered, panic rising within her. ‘Oh no.‘

‘My god, he is so petty. I totally ignored him just now–he must be pissed off,’ she thought. ‘What am I supposed to do now?‘

The auditorium erupted into chaos in an instant.

The school administrators, having anticipated the chaos, quickly stepped forward and warned, “Everyone, stop taking photos and keep quiet. President Aiden values his privacy–any photos taken must be deleted immediately.”

The auditorium gradually quieted down.

However, Valerie had just choked so violently that she couldn’t stop coughing, her uncontrollable coughing fit painfully conspicuous in the suddenly silent auditorium.

Aiden’s gaze instantly zeroed in on her through the noise.

He remained expressionless, his eyes unwavering as they suddenly fixed on her with startling intensity.

Valerie’s face burned under his intense gaze. She immediately covered her mouth, desperately trying to stifle her coughing. But it was too late.

As the undisputed center of attention, Aiden needed only a single glance to draw everyone’s gaze.

Nearly everyone in the auditorium noticed Aiden’s intense gaze fixed on Valerie.

The room buzzed with renewed chatter and speculation as the girls, who had just been starstruck by him, now turned their attention to Valerie, their

eyes filled with pure, seething envy.

‘I feel so wronged,‘ Valerie thought bitterly. ‘It’s all his fault!’

To make matters worse, the very person who caused all this didn’t even realize the trouble he’d brought upon Valerie. Instead, he unabashedly commanded from the stage, “Get her some water.”

The principal froze for a moment, his jaw dropping in disbelief. After a pause, he finally managed to stammer blankly, “O–okay.”

“Wait? That can’t be right,‘ he thought, confusion flashing through her mind. ‘I thought the new president of the Walker Group was supposed to be super cold and aloof? Seriously? Since when is he this considerate to a student?

The principal wondered in shock, ‘Good heavens, so the rumors were completely wrong after all.

Flustered, the principal hastily sent someone to deliver a bottle of water to Valerie.

Valerie had always been the center of attention, and in that instant, she became the target of everyone’s burning stares and whispered gossip.

Adrienne stared at Valerie, her eyes shining. “Valerie, is this the magic of being gorgeous? Even Mr. Walker actually cares about you. OMG!

Valerie flushed with embarrassment and muttered under her breath, “He’s not helping–if anything, he’s practically setting me up.”

Sure enough, the moment the words left her mouth, she felt hostile glares from those around her. A shrill voice from a girl nearby sneered, “Oh, she’s got some tricks, always flirting with guys left and right. So gross.”

“Exactly. Being pretty isn’t enough–you’ve got to know how to flaunt it shamelessly. There are plenty of good–looking girls at this school, but how come none of them pull these kinds of shameless moves to catch Mr. Walker’s attention? It’s absolutely disgusting.”

“How else could she please her sugar daddy without being slutty? I actually thought she might have been wronged, but now it’s clear–she’s just a total bitch.”

Adrienne snapped, “What are you even talking about? Who can control when they cough? If you think it’s so easy, why don’t you try coughing and see if Mr. Walker brings you water too?”

The room had gone quiet, and Adrienne’s retort was practically a shout.

Many people heard it and turned to glare at Adrienne and Valerie, their eyes full of murderous intent, as if wishing they could tear the two girls to pieces.

Valerie was mortified. She quickly clapped her hand over Adrienne’s mouth and hissed, “Stop it. Everyone’s staring at us.”

Adrienne was even more thin–skinned than Valerie. Realizing how loud she’d been under everyone’s stares, her face flushed crimson.

“Shameless, just as I thought.”

“Gross. Trash attracts trash.”

“Ugh, does the CEO actually go for those attention–seeking girls? That’s just unfair.”

Adrienne was fuming, and Valerie also felt extremely uncomfortable. Frowning, she couldn’t help but snap, “I was coughing my lungs out–if he didn’t care, he’d be a total jerk.”

Adrienne immediately chimed in, “Damn right.”

The girls around them scoffed, “Whatever. Just means he’s being nice.”

Valerie thought to herself, ‘Seriously? Do you guys even know what being nice means? He’s anything but nice. He only acts like that because I’m his wife.’

But if she said that out loud, chances were no one would believe her. After thinking it over, she decided to keep quiet.

The little commotion soon died down.

As Valerie sipped her water, listening to Aiden’s familiar voice echoing from the speakers all around, she felt an inexplicable, sweet sense of pride welling

up inside her.

‘He’s actually quite impressive,‘ Valerie thought.

For as long as she could remember, Valerie had never heard him speak like this before.
