Chapter 118
Valerie’s eyes widened. “What?”
Putting down his coffee cup, Aiden said, “I’ve arranged an apartment for you near your campus. You can move in this afternoon.”
Valerie blinked, a smile tugging at her lips. “Coincidentally, I was thinking about moving out too. Adrienne even asked me to get a place together with
her.”
“Adrienne?” he said.
Valerie explained, “She’s the girl who stood by me last night and spoke up for me. She’s got soft, rounded face and wears glasses.”
“Got it.” He vaguely remembered her.
Valerie said gently, “Adrienne even asked me last night if I wanted to share an apartment with her, so maybe we could just skip the one you arranged?”
Valerie said tactfully, “Adrienne and I don’t have many close friends on campus. We’re each other’s closest companion. With all the dorm troubles lately, we both really want to move out.”
As Valerie spoke, Aiden turned his gaze to her, arching an eyebrow slightly.
Valerie felt inexplicably nervous but still managed to say, “I–I want to live with her.”
Aiden lowered his gaze again and responded, “Alright.”
Valerie’s face brightened with delight. ‘Did he just agree?‘ Valerie wondered, hardly daring to believe it.
Valerie continued, “My friend is already looking for a place. Knowing her, she’d feel uncomfortable if she didn’t pay her share, so I think I should follow her lead and rent a place together off campus.”
“Okay,” Aiden replied again.
Valerie looked at his inscrutable expression, her heart fluttering with unease.
‘I’ve got it all settled,‘ Valerie thought, still feeling a bit uneasy. ‘But what about the apartment he’d already arranged?‘
But Valerie kept her questions to herself, quickly finished her breakfast, and headed to school by car.
Although their new apartment wasn’t exactly far from campus, it still took a forty–minute drive to get
there.
She was dropped off by Phillip, her usual driver, in the Mercedes she’d grown so used to.
Upon arriving at school, Valerie, wary of attracting gossip, asked Phillip to drop her off a little farther from the entrance.
At the entrance, Valerie unexpectedly ran into Adrienne, her face beaming with joy. Adrienne exclaimed, “Valerie, I found us a place.”
Valerie’s eyes lit up in surprise. “That fast?”
Adrienne nodded eagerly. “Yeah. I posted I on a rental site in the middle of the night, saying I was looking for a one–bedroom near Reano University, and someone already contacted me today. The price is really reasonable too. Check it out.”
Adrienne pulled up some photos and handed her phone to Valerie. “Look. The place is beautifully decorated and looks brand new. It has amazing sunlight.
“Check out this courtyard–perfect for gardening. There’s space in the living room for a piano–the landlord’s daughter used to keep hers here before she
moved out.

The more Valerie looked, the more something felt off.”
She couldn’t help thinking, “What an incredible coincidence. It’s like getting a pillow the moment I felt sleepy–almost too good to be true.
Moreover, this pillow fits our needs perfectly–absolutely flawless from every angle.
Adrienne’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “And the best part? It’s a steal. The landlord’s in a rush to move abroad and doesn’t want the place sitting empty, so the rent is only 600 dollars yuan a month–can you believe it?”

‘But how could something this good just happen? Valerie wondered skeptically.
“Right?” Adrienne exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “At this quality and price, I wouldn’t have even dared to dream of it before.
“Valerie, do you think God is making it up to us? After all, we saved Jasmine last night and then got blamed by her mom–maybe this is our reward.”
Valerie thought to herself, ‘I don’t know if God is making it up to us, but there’s no such thing as a free lunch.
‘Just looking at this apartment’s luxurious decor, high–end furniture, and elegant style, it’s obvious the owner’s family must be quite wealthy. Even if they didn’t want to leave it vacant, they could easily have relatives stay here.‘
Seeing how excited Adrienne was, Valerie kept her doubts to herself.
When they entered the classroom, which had been buzzing with talk about Jasmine’s suicide attempt, a sudden hush fell as everyone turned to stare- their cheerful laughter now hanging awkwardly in the silent room.
All eyes turned to them, filled with unmistakable judgment.
Meredith sat alone at her desk, looking listless and expressionless, as if in a daze. But when Valerie and Adrienne approached, her gaze snapped toward them, her eyes instantly welling up with tears.
She hissed angrily, “You’re really heartless. Jasmine’s still in the hospital fighting for her life, and you’re over there laughing it up. Are you actually happy something happened to her?”
Elbert, drowsily slumped over his desk, kicked it impatiently and snapped, “Would you quit it? You’ve been the only one stirring up drama all morning. Where were you last night when Valerie was saving someone?
“Looks like you’re the only one enjoying this. How twisted can you be.”
Meredith hadn’t expected so many people to take their side. Her expression shifted, her face flushing with frustration as she choked out, “Where were you two last night? The dorm was completely empty. Do you have any idea how terrified I was?”
