Chapter 120
After packing and dragging out their two overstuffed suitcases, both Adrienne and Valerie were left breathless and exhausted.
Just as Elbert stepped out of the cafeteria and was about to head back to his dorm, he spotted them struggling to wheel their heavy suitcases forward.
After a moment’s hesitation, Elbert stepped forward and said, “Hey, need a hand?”
“Absolutely,” Adrienne responded without hesitation, thrusting her suitcase and bag into Elbert’s hands. “Hold on a sec. I’ve got more stuff upstairs.”
Adrienne dashed upstairs. Valerie glanced at Elbert and remarked, “You’ve been spending quite a lot of time with Adrienne lately.”
Elbert quickly waved his hands and said, “Don’t get me wrong. Uh, I just feel kinda guilty about this. When that forum post first came out, I actually joined in bashing you.
“But after I realized you were framed, I changed my mind. So now I’m just trying to make it up to you and ease my conscience a bit.”
Valerie smiled gently, “Thanks, Elbert.” Elbert felt awkward.
Valerie’s smile was so pure that Elbert didn’t dare to look at her for too long.
He muttered under his breath, “What’s there to thank me for? If you knew what I’d said about you, you definitely wouldn’t be thanking me.”
Valerie didn’t seem bothered and said, “A lot of people have bad–mouthed me, but you’re the only one who ever tried to make it right.”
Elbert was momentarily speechless, then protested indignantly, “They’re all jerks. I’m the only good guy here.”
Adrienne came bounding down the stairs, eyeing them suspiciously. “Huh, what kind of shady stuff are you two whispering about?”
“Come on,” Elbert called out. “What kind of stuff is always running through your head?”
Adrienne snickered, mischief sparkling in her eyes.
Elbert rolled his eyes at Adrienne’s antics.
Valerie didn’t have much to move. Adrienne had expected to make a,couple of trips, but to her surprise, Elbert got everything done in one go.
After moving everything in, Valerie ordered some takeout, and the three of them joined forces to give the place a thorough cleaning.
After cleaning the house, Elbert flopped onto the sofa and sighed, “This place is huge. I’m beat. You guys have to treat me to some BBQ, or I’m camping
here.”

Adrienne scoffed, “Such a slacker. Come on. Let’s go get some BBQ.”
Elbert pushed himself up from the couch and gave Valerie a skeptical look. “Wait. You’re coming too?”
Valerie shook out her hair and reached for her jacket, slipping it on. Suddenly, she eyed Elbert suspiciously. “Of course. Unless you’re planning to hog all the food for yourself?”
Elbert was momentarily at a loss for words and muttered to himself, “Who would’ve thought? Even Valerie is into BBQ.”
Valerie shot back confidently. “What’s wrong with BBQ? Can’t she enjoy some skewers too?”
Elbert grinned and said, “Who would’ve thought you’re so down–to–earth. You have no idea what the guys in our dorm say about you. They all call you an angel who fell from the sky.
“You never start conversations with classmates, and when people talk to you, you just give them the cold shoulder. Everyone thinks you’re super aloof – total ice queen material.”

“Come on.” Adrienne protested. “Valerie’s no ice queen. She’s an absolute angel, both gentle and kind.”
“You don’t get it,” Elbert chimed in, keeping pace. “To us otaku guys in the dorm, she’s this untouchable ice queen–a celestial beauty you can only admire from afar. And now that we know she’s married, everyone actually breathed a sigh of relief.”
