‘What, just because she’s better looking than me, her whole life gets to be different?‘ Juliette thought bitterly. Just because she was born with those looks, she’s destined for a completely different life than mine?‘
Juliette lay on the bed laughing hysterically, her face already a tear–streaked, snotty mess.
‘What a fucking joke life is,‘ Juliette seethed and murmured inwardly
Juliette lay exhausted from crying. After what felt like an eternity, she dragged herself up, opened the wardrobe, and got dressed.
Her panties were torn to shreds, the insides of her thighs chafed raw and burning.
‘I can’t take this anymore,‘ Juliette thought desperately. ‘I must escape. Even if I have to beg on the streets, I’ll break free from this prison.‘
Juliette let out a shaky burp, then frantically rummaged through her things for anything valuable.
Luckily, she had always managed to manipulate Valerie into buying her things. There were actually a few valuable pieces of designer jewelry, barely worn, locked away in a safe inside the bottom drawer of her wardrobe.
‘If I sell these, I could probably get some money back, maybe even thousands, Juliette calculated and wondered.
Juliette was rummaging through the drawer when she suddenly noticed there seemed to be something hidden underneath. She yanked the drawer out completely, and there, wedged beneath it, was an envelope.
The envelope had been tucked away here for ages, with tiny bugs having crawled across it.
Juliette brushed off the dust and opened the envelope, revealing nothing but a small necklace, a delicate wooden pendant with tiny bells
As soon as she took it out, the rich fragrance of sandalwood filled the air. Strangely, after all these years, the three tiny bells still tinkled clearly and shone as brightly as ever.
The pendant was engraved with characters. She only recognized a few, while the other remained unfamiliar to her.
The intricate patterns exuded a timeless elegance, but more importantly, the quality and sheen of the wood made its exceptional value obvious at a glance.
Suddenly, Juliette remembered where this had come from. This was something she’d stolen from Valerie, years and years ago.

Around the age of ten, Juliette had only recently met Valerie. Valerie was constantly bullied at the orphanage, and Juliette would brin steamed buns from home to share with her.
Every time Valerie ate the steamed bun through her tears, she’d tell Juliette some impossible fantasies. “Juliette, I do have parents.
“My parents used to love me so, so much. We lived in a big castle. They told me it was my very own castle, and I was the little princess there.”

Juliette would always scoff dismissively, “Weren’t you/dumped at the orphanage as a toddler? How could you possibly remember? The matron said you were barely three or four when you arrived.”
Back then, Valerie couldn’t tell it was mockery. Beaming, she chirped, “But I really do remember. I have a mommy and daddy. I’m not like the other kids.
“I even have two big brothers. My oldest brother is sooo tall. He always picks me up and hugs and kisses me. My second brother is the worst. He’s always breaking my toys.”
After each time, Valerie would tearfully ask, “Juliette, do you think they’ll ever find me?”
Juliette would ruthlessly shatter her fantasy. “If they wanted you, they’d have found you by now. Face it. They dumped you. Who’d want a girl? Güls are just dead weight.”

Chapter 122
But Valerie wouldn’t listen, still clinging to those impossible dreams.
Finally, one day, Juliette couldn’t stand Valerie anymore. While Valerie around her neck.
was fast asleep, she stealthily took a pair of scissors and snipped the cord from
Watching Valerie frantically searching around and wailing helplessly, Juliette thought coldly, ‘Serves her right!
But over the years, even this memory gradually faded from her mind.
Now, seeing the carved pendant again, Juliette suddenly realized that Valerie’s
heritage might be far more complicated than she’d imagined.
Though Juliette knew nothing about wood, the fine material and exquisite craftsmanship made it clear this was no ordinary trinket.
After all, even back at the orphanage, the matron had always warned Valerie to keep it hidden from the other children.
Even Juliette had only stumbled upon it during
one of her shared baths with Valerie.
Juliette could still vividly recall little Valerie’s beaming face as she proudly showed off and declared, “This is a princess’s mark.”
Juliette stared at the wooden pendant, her heart pounding faster and faster. She gripped it hard, her jaw clenched with fierce resolve.
‘I have to escape. I need to find another way out,‘ Juliette thought resolutely.
After packing her things, Juliette tucked all the jewelry into her undergarments–but the wooden pendant, she hung around her neck.
“Uncle?” Juliette called out softly. “Vernon?” No one answered. There was no one in the house.
‘Of course,‘ Juliette thought bitterly. ‘They must have gone off happily to collect the money.’
The door was bolted shut. Using every ounce of strength, Juliette battered it down, then desperately rushed to the kitchen and grabbed a cleaver. Just then, her aunt came back with groceries.
She gasped at the sight of Juliette, disheveled and clutching a kitchen knife, then shrieked, “Damn you. You nearly gave me a heart attack.”
Juliette was shaking all over, her voice hoarse with desperation as she screamed, “Let me out. Or I swear, I’ll cut you
down.”
Her aunt scoffed, “No passport, no phone–so where exactly do you think you’re going? At least here you won’t starve. Out there? Nobody’s gonna give a damn about you.”
“None of your damn business.” Juliette roared hysterically, “Get out of my way. Let me go.” With a piercing scream, she lunged at her aunt, swinging the cleaver with all her might.
Juliette’s shrill scream sent her aunt scrambling backward, shrieking in terror again and again. Juliette reached the door, flung it open, and bolted downstairs.
Juliette had barely dashed downstairs when she ran smack into those two bastards, the father and son, just back from picking up the money.
“Damn it, Juliette’s getting away. After her, now,” her uncle roared.
Vernon immediately bolted after her. Juliette’s entire body trembled violently as she whirled around and broke into a desperate sprint.
But she had gone without food for two meals and was weak from hunger, her running sluggish.
Just as despair was about to consume her, she let out a piercing scream, hurled the cleaver at Vernon, and darted into the middle of the road, shouting, “Help. Somebody help me.”
