Chapter 63

“So that’s what this was about…” Valerie murmured.

“Exactly! Come on, hurry inside,” Juliette said cheerfully as she grabbed Valerie’s hand and yanked her forward with force. “Don’t want you catching a cold, do we?”

At that exact moment, the door swung open–and from inside came the ragged, feverish panting of a man.

Juliette’s heart fluttered with glee. Perfect. A second later, a figure lunged out. A man–mid–thirties at most–eyes bloodshot, face twisted in desperation, clothes in disarray, staggered forward like an animal in heat. He let out a guttural roar, voice hoarse and crazed: “Give her to me! Now!”

The second he locked eyes on Valerie, his gaze turned wild

hunger.

Juliette, though prepared for this exact moment, still took a startled step back. Even she hadn’t expected it to be this intense.

Valerie instantly recognized him. He was a relative of the Clark family.

And in her previous life, this man’s mother had once slapped her across the face in public just to curry favor with Valentina–humiliating her in front of

everyone.

Juliette nearly burst into laughter.

Valentina had done her homework–this man clearly had a thing for Valerie. Everything was playing out beautifully.

No need for Juliette to stay any longer. All she had to do now was go fetch Aiden and let him see his precious wife caught in the most shameful situation imaginable.

The plan was simple: destroy Valerie’s reputation in one blow. Juliette’s mind buzzed with satisfaction. She turned, ready to leave and deliver the final

blow.

But in the next second, strong arms seized her waist. She let out a shriek.

“What-?! Let me go! You’ve got the wrong person! No–don’t! Let go of me!”

She screamed and struggled, flailing in blind panic–but it was useless. How

body was slammed hard against the door.

A woman’s voice rang out behind her–calm, cold, and cutting. “So this was your plan?”

Juliette’s eyes flew open. There, standing just inside the room in perfect composure, was Valerie–unruffled, untouched, staring at her with an icy gaze.

Juliette’s world collapsed in an instant. “No–no, Valerie, it’s not what you think! Please help me! Valerie, please…”

Her words turned to screams. The room swallowed them whole.

Valerie didn’t move. The room was dark. The only sounds were what came from within–enough to make Valerie’s blood run cold.
