Chapter 75

The cleaning staff took away all the unwanted items and completely re–arranged Valerie’s bed, making sure everything was spotless. They did the fare for Adrienne’s bed, changing the linens and blankets to fresh, clean ones.

Adrienne eagerly climbed into her bed and sniffed the sheets.

It was freshly washed. Clean. And smelled of sunshine.

The cleaning staff didn’t stop there–they also disinfected everything in Valerie’s room with alcohol wipes before they left.

Meredith and Jasmine watched this scene, seething with anger, unable to say a word.

Even Adrienne’s bed was made fresh and new–why couldn’t they do the same for theirs?

It was infuriating.

What really made them mad was the fact that Valerie had put a new set of skincare products on her dresser.

Top–tier international brands, a full set–every item was something they could only dream of but could never afford.

Jasmine’s eyes burned with jealousy, and Meredith stared wide–eyed.

Adrienne spoke up, “Valerie, that skincare set must be really expensive.”

“It’s alright,” Valerie responded casually.

Jasmine sneered, “Yeah, right. Don’t play dumb.”

Valerie brushed her off like she was nothing, turning back to Adrienne, “If you like it, when your new book gets turned into a TV show, I’ll get you a set as a gift.”

Everyone in the dorm knew that Adrienne was writing a novel.

Adrienne’s face lit up with excitement. “I’d love that! But who’d want to adapt a script from someone like me?”

“Who says they wouldn’t? Your writing and stories are good enough.”

Valerie wasn’t just offering encouragement. In the future, after Jasmine and Meredith had plagiarized Adrienne’s novel, the thick–skinned Jasmine had the rights bought and turned into a TV show.

Meredith at least had the decency to not fully plagiarize, but Jasmine had stolen the entire story right out from under Adrienne.

The core of the story had always been Adrienne’s, and naturally, all the achievements belonged to her as well.

Now, Adrienne just needed the right opportunity to shine.

Meredith secretly envied Adrienne for having a friend like Valerie.

But Jasmine looked down on it and said, “Come on, with that pathetic stuff, how could anyone want to make a TV show out of it? It’s something even elementary school kids wouldn’t watch.”

Meredith felt that Jasmine had gone too far, but she still chimed in, “Dreaming is the fastest way, right?”

Valerie didn’t even bother responding to them and headed straight to the bathroom.

Adrienne, taking a cue from Valerie, started singing on her bed.

Jasmine and Meredith both felt like they’d just hit a brick wall–angry but unable to do anything. They were frustrated and suffocating

After Valerie’s little stunt, Jasmine and Meredith were much quieter, but they still whispered in the corner, plotting something

The next day, as Valerie entered the classroom, many people turned to look at her.

Their eyes were filled with astonishment.

“Why does Valerie look so different now?”

“Of course, she looks different,” a girl sneered. “She took that long leave,

but who knows what she was really doing?”

I heard she went to a fancy restaurant yesterday. They say she’s interning.

Valerie met her gaze without hesitation and said, “So, what do you think I’ve been doing?”

The girl didn’t expect Valerie to respond so boldly, and she was stunned, muttering, “Who knows what shameful things you’ve been up to?”

Valerie smirked, “Since you know so much, why don’t you tell everyone what ‘shameful things‘ I’ve done?”

Jaelynn Gilliam’s face turned bright red as she realized the room was watching her, but she didn’t know how to retort.

Adrienne slammed her book onto the table and angrily said, “Spreading rumors is easy, but clearing them up takes effort. Lies come out of their mouths

so easily–it’s disgusting.”

Normally, Adrienne sat quietly at her desk, her presence minimal. But now, she was speaking out loudly.

Jaelynn, embarrassed, said, “Who doesn’t know you’re close with her? Of course, you’d defend her.”

“What’s wrong with that?” Adrienne snapped. “Valerie is my only friend. When you all mocked me, she was the only one who stood by me and comforted me. If I don’t defend her, should I defend you?”

Jaelynn was left speechless, her face twisted with anger as the surrounding eyes bored into her.

Valerie felt warmth in her chest and said, “Thank you, Adrienne.”

“I’m just telling the truth,” Adrienne replied. “They’ve been jealous of you for a long time, always talking behind your back. You’re my only friend, Valerie. I believe in you.”

Valerie felt her heart warm even more.

The only person who used to stand by her side and defend her was Juliette. But now, she and Juliette were estranged. Valerie felt a sense of loneliness inside her, but soon the class began.

In the finance department at the opposite university, Rowan, who had once been involved in a police case because of Valerie and ended up paying 30 thousand dollars to Juliette, was under heavy pressure from his older brother and had become a much more subdued person.

But whenever he thought about Valerie, his heart ached with frustration.
