Alexander could not still wrap his head around the revelation of Emma the previous night. 

This woman whom he had defended and had confidence in had tried to kill not only Emma but even their unborn twins. 

She had planned everything to the extent of hiring the fake fiance that he met at the flower shop.

The foundation of Alexander reality was torn from beneath his feet, and this was a nightmare he wished he could just wake up from. 

And with every replaying of Emma’s and Vivian’s confessions, his chest constricted, his jaw tightened, and a river of anger surged through his veins. 

He was a bloody fool–a man who not only welcomed danger right into his house but had brazenly defended it before his family. 

How could he have been so blind? 

It weighed heavy in his conscience; he had brought harm’s way to his family, his only family, all because of lust. He abhorred himself for this–weakening and being blind enough not to see her for what she was. There was a deep sigh as his body sank deep into the back of the chair. His team of security operatives had been struggling through the entire night trying to track down Annie. 

They had located his limousine to some remote area, a possible lead. 

Alexander was lost in his thoughts when he almost did not feel the light touch on his arm. 

He snapped out of it, startled, and turned to Kevin. 

“Sir,” Kevin whispered, bending his head close. “There’s someone you need to see. 

Alexander’s eyebrows furrowed in incomprehension, but the underlying urgency in Kevin’s voice got through. Alexander rose to his feet and without a word walked out of the meeting. 

The minute he stepped into his office, his eyes fell on the man standing in the middle of his office. 

Annie’s personal OB–GYN, the best one she could find, pale and strained–looking, like he hadn’t slept for days. 

Alexander sat back, his piercing eyes narrowing into a sliver. “Speak.” 

The doctor rose to his feet, his hands shaking as he laid them upon his stomach in a gesture of guilt. 

He couldn’t even meet Alexander’s gaze. 

“I’ve come to beg for your forgiveness,” the doctor stumbled, his voice cracking. “And for your protection–for me and my family.” 

Alexander leant forward, sharp features hardening. “What are you talking about? 

His shoulders shook, and tears streamed down his face. 

He raised his head, his eyes in his skull desperate. “Miss Annie…she was never pregnant.”

It struck Alexander like a freight train. 

His breath hitched, and for an instant, the room spun. 

His throat dried, and a fiery rage boiled within his chest. 

“What just now did you say?” His voice was low and menacing; his tone was cold enough to send shivers down the spine of the doctor. 

“She threatened me,” confessed the doctor, his voice shaking. “She said she’d kill my months, I’ve been her prisoner, forced to lie for her.”

Alexander’s fists were clenched on the desk, the veins on his arms swelling as he wrestled to keep the anger growing inside him. “How am I to know you are not lying to me? For all I know, this could just be another of her games. 

The doctor quickly grabbed a file from the desk and a USB and handed it to Alexander, with trembling hands. “These are her original medical reports and her threatening calls to me,” he said. “Miss Annie cannot conceive. Her womb is too damaged from multiple abortions she had in the past.”
