Mr. Cameron wasn’t some intimidating figure.

But David was her husband–the man she had spent countless nights beside, someone she knew too well. 

Mr. Cameron, though? She knew nothing about him. She had no idea what he preferred, and since this was a business matter, she was worried about making a misstep. 

Boris turned to her. “Caroline, you’re comfortable with this, right?” 

“No problem,” she answered. 

As they spoke, the conference room door suddenly swung open. 

William stood at the entrance, holding the door with one hand while gesturing with the other. “Mr. Ellison.” 

Well,speak of the devil. 

David strolled in at an unhurried pace, one hand tucked into his slacks, exuding a calm confidence that instantly shifted the room’s atmosphere. 

He seemed casual. Everyone else? Not so much. 

The tension in the room was instant. Even Boris and Caroline stiffened slightly. What was Mr. Ellison doing hereagain? 

“I was outside the door just now,” David said nonchalantly, “and I’m pretty sure I heard my name. That wasn’t just my imagination, was it?” 

Boris, unfazed as always, gave him a knowing look. “Mr. Ellison, another unexpected visit? You really enjoy dropping in on us.” 

David had no reason to be at this meeting–just like he had no reason to show up at the last celebration banquet. 

Now, here he was again. 

So yeah, Boris had every reason to be a little sarcastic. 

David didn’t seem to mind. His gaze swept across the room, his presence commanding. 

The entire conference room was dead silent. 

Sensing the shift, William quickly pulled out a chair. “Mr. Ellison, please have a seat.” 

“Carry on as if I’m not here,” David said lazily, settling into the chair and idly tapping his fingers against the table. “I just happened to pass by and figured I’d listen in. The R&D department has been performing exceptionally well these past two months–impressive progress, strong results. I’m quite satisfied.” 

Act like he wasn’t here? 

Easier said than done. With him in the room, there was no ignoring his presence. 

“Oh, and one more thing,” David added, his tone deceptively light. “If I’m not mistaken, I heard something

The room collectively dropped their gazes. Except for Boris and Caroline. 

“Did we say that?” Boris said, feigning innocence. “I don’t recall anything like that.” 

“So I must’ve misheard?” 

“Sounds like it,” Boris nodded. “Could even be a case of selective hearing. Caroline, don’t you agree?” 

And just like that, he dragged Caroline into it. 

Caroline, unfazed, replied smoothly, “Mr. Boris is always right.” 

David arched a brow. “So that means I’m wrong?” 

“Mr. Ellison is also right,” she answered without missing a beat. 

She wasn’t falling into his trap.

This was a work meeting—an important one. Yet here he was, barging in just to stir things up. Did he really have nothing better to do? 

This meeting had nearly been derailed because of David. If not for her standing firm and insisting Boris go ahead with it, it might not have even happened. 

And now heshowed up anyway? Was he just desperate for attention? How annoying. 

She had been avoiding him, but that clearly wasn’t enough. 

Boris wasn’t amused either. The R&D department was his to manage. What was David even doing here? 

Besides, it was Boris who had pushed for Caroline’s hire against opposition. 

If it weren’t for him, she would’ve accepted Nash’s offer–and then David would’ve been the one sulking. 

So this time, Boris and Caroline were completely on the same page. 

David sensed the silent resistance. He smirked slightly but let it go. 

Boris wrapped up the meeting agenda and announced, “Alright, that’s it. Meeting adjourned.” 

As soon as the meeting adjourned, everyone wasted no time making their exit, slipping out as quickly as possible.
