There was no way out now. With everyone watching, she had no choice but to turn around. “Is there something you need, Mr. Ellison?” 

“Not really,” he said casually. “Just wanted to chat.” 

His gaze flicked toward the group still crowding near the door.

David’s expression remained neutral. “Are you sure?” 

The underlying warning in his tone made Boris reconsider. “Actually… maybe I don’t need to know that badly.” As he passed David on his way out, he patted him on the shoulder. “Take it easy. This is still an office. There are cameras, you know.” 

“William, turn them off,” David said without hesitation. 

“Yes, Mr. Ellison,” William responded immediately.

Caroline sighed. “I had to get to work. I was running late.” 

“You could’ve taken the car with me.” 

“I’d rather not.” 

David frowned. “I asked you to come to my office, and you ignored me.” 

“I had a meeting,” she said. “I was busy.” 

He let out a short laugh. “You always have an excuse. Caroline, you’re obviously avoiding me.” 

“David,” she said with exasperation, “I don’t have the time or patience for this. I’m just trying to get through my normal day–working, attending meetings, handling research. Can you please just leave me alone during the day?” 

“I can.”

Then, as expected, he added, “But if I let you off during the day, then I won’t at night.”
