Chapter 388 Slow Down! We’re Going to Crash! 

Caroline instinctively took several steps back, thinking the car would slow down. But instead, the engine roared as it picked up speed, racing straight toward her before screeching to a sudden stop. 

“Screeech” 

The tires burned against the pavement, filling the air with the sharp, acrid scent of rubber. 

What the hell! Who drives like this? Do they have a death wish? 

Before she could react, the driver’s door swung open, and she found herself staring at David’s familiar, striking features. 

Of course, it was him. 

His face was stone–cold, his jaw tight, his mood clearly foul. 

“David?” 

“Get in.” His voice was clipped, and his eyes were unreadable. 

She hesitated. Why is he here? And why did he show up right after Cameron left? 

After spending time with Cameron’s effortless charm and composed demeanor, David’s overwhelming presence felt almost suffocating. 

How could two men from such similar worlds be so fundamentally different? 

“I said, get in,” David repeated impatiently. “Caroline, are you deaf?” 

“Oh… okay.” 

Under the curious stares of passersby, she climbed into the passenger seat without another word. Thank God this is a restaurant and not Ellison Group. 

Just as Caroline settled into her seat and reached for her seatbelt, David slammed his foot on the gas. 

With a thunderous vroom, the car surged forward. 

Caroline had no time to brace herself–she was nearly thrown forward, her heart hammering in her chest. “What the h*ll, David! Are you trying to kill me?” 

“This is just how I drive.” 

His hands gripped the wheel firmly, his knuckles barely shifting as he maneuvered through traffic at reckless speeds. He wove between cars with precision, accelerating through yellow lights that turned red just as they cleared the intersection. 

He was driving like he was on a racetrack. 

Caroline clutched her seatbelt with both hands, her face draining of color. 

She didn’t even dare to blink–if they crashed, she wanted to see it coming.

Sweat drenched her back. 

She couldn’t even count how many times they had almost collided with another car. Every time she thought this was it. David would slam the brakes at the last possible moment, narrowly avoiding disaster–only to accelerate again as if nothing had happened.

The roar of the wind, the blaring horns, and the distant shouts of angry drivers–all of it became background noise.
