“Do you think Javier is a good guy?” Ella suddenly blurted out the question. Even though her heart had told her numerous times that he was good and she had seen him being super patient with her, there was a part of her that felt that he was hiding something from her. That was the only thing that caused her not to be able to trust him completely.

Damon's eyes once again widened in surprise. “Of course, he is! I would not let you date him, let alone get engaged to him if he is not.” Upon realizing that he had come too strong, her best friend backed away and explained further, “Look. I know you did not remember this and I believe Javier could not even tell you this since he has no idea about it but we dressed you up real good at his last birthday party.”

“His birthday party,” Ella reiterated as if trying to will her mind to remember something. Anything.

“Yeah. So he was being an asshole,” Damon paused then tilted his head, frowning. “Although now that I think about it again, I think he was jealous when he found out about you bringing a guy to his birthday party.”

“Really?” Ella’s curiosity was now piqued. “What did he say?”

“He insinuated that the guy you were going to bring to his party must be either an accountant or a tax advisor.” Damon laughed, shaking his head. “Imagine his shock when this damn hot guy who could melt butter came instead.” Her best friend did a small pivot while holding his arms up high in the air.

“So you are saying that he thought I was bringing a boring guy?” Ella concluded, trying to get pieces of this story together.

“Yes! But instead, you brought me!” Damon grinned then added, “Oh, and you sang a happy birthday song to him too.”

“I sang?!” Ella blinked rapidly. “In public? At his birthday?”

“Yeah, you did it to save Jackie. Your friend who just started her event organizer company. Their singer got diarrhea or something.”

Ella put her hands on her face, covering her eyes in embarrassment. “Gosh, I must have sung horribly!”

“Oh, come the fuck on!” Damon grabbed her hands and peeled her hands off her face. He stared deeply into her eyes. “You can sing, Darling. You have won the talent show back when we were in college for goodness’s sake! I am pretty sure the event organizer had it taped or something. You can call your friend Jackie and have her sent the tape if you want.” Then Damon’s eyes sparkled as he told her his idea, “And maybe, it may help you regain your memory back.”

“Maybe,” Ella reiterated.

“Okay.” Damon waved his hands in front of her before heading towards the door. “Now, Darling, get dressed so we could go get some shopping done!”

Ella laughed out loud. “Okay, okay.”

After spending the entire morning and afternoon going through shops and walking around the malls, Ella and Damon finally found a nice cafe where they could rest their feet. Well, actually Damon was the one who needed more rest considering he had brought her a wheelchair and wheeled her almost everywhere. Despite her telling him that she was alright, he really did take Javier’s words seriously in keeping her safe.

“So,” Damon paused to take a sip of his green tea latte. “What happened last night? Come on now, spill the beans.”

Ella stared at him for a moment before realizing what he had actually meant. “Nothing.”

Damon lifted one brow and gave her a pointed look. “Darling.”

“Nothing happened.” She shook her head.

“Really? And that kiss this morning was just a fickle of my imagination?” He rolled his eyes and let out a small sigh. “I know it is none of my business but I just want to make sure that you are alright, My Darling.”

“I am alright,” she reassured him. “It is just a lot of things that are going around,” Ella said with a sigh. “And it got me confused sometimes. Like, I do not know what I am supposed to do.”
