Two days later, sitting behind his desk at the Summers Entertainment headquarter, Javier kept telling himself got the last two hours that it might be enough that Ella wanted him. Even though his inbox was full of emails from various departments, demanding his attention, he ignored it all and stared blankly ahead.

His desire fisted in his gut as he recalled her taste, and her touch. Every cell in his being had screamed for him to lead her back to the bedroom or bring her over to the couch, to tumble with her, and feed the hunger that had held them both in its grip. Damon’s arrival two days ago had come in the nick of time, because he had been dangerously close to doing just that, and had he done so, it would have been a mistake. Because he wanted more from her than for her to feel desire for him. He wanted her to trust him which was why he had been waking up earlier than usual and dashed off to the office because he knew, one more look at her in her nightgown would send him straight to hell. He knew that it would take everything in him not to lose control.

I trust you.

Damn. How he had wanted to believe that she had meant those words. He had wanted it so badly that he had almost convinced himself it was possible that she did trust him and that she would still trust him when her memory returned.

“So,” said his sister as she walked into his office. She had this habit of not knocking on the door first and even though he did not mind, she nearly scared him to death just now. “You have a scheduled meeting this evening with Tom Barnes to discuss the talent needed for his upcoming Greek mythology infused fantasy TV series.”

Recalling that he had just asked Ella for dinner tonight, he quickly said, “Send my regrets and say I will have to reschedule it to tomorrow,” he told his sister. “Though please send a messenger over to get the manuscript for me to review. Tom promised me he would send the manuscript so I could discuss it with the talent management last week but clearly, he had not.”

“Also, I am not sure you remember this, Brother, since Ella has probably scheduled this a few months ago but you have a trip to Los Angeles to overview the plan for the new office there. You are supposed to finalize everything before this year ends.”

“Reschedule it.” The meeting would last for at least a week, and there was no way he intended to leave Ella alone for that long.

“Jave, you have rescheduled this trip twice already,” Clarabelle complained. “While you are in Los Angeles, there are four or so meetings you have to attend too and I do not think we should reschedule all of them again.”

Javier had to admit that Clarabelle was right. He could not put off this trip again. “Fine. I know overviewing the new office would not take more than a day and I will have two meetings the next day so have the other three meetings rescheduled to be on the day after that. That way we could make this one week trip into a three days trip.”

“Got it, Boss,” his sister responded and wrote down something on her tab.

“Alright.” He made the notation on his calendar. “What else have I got?”

About fifteen minutes later Javier hung up the telephone with a long list containing the names of people whose calls he needed to return and things he needed to handle. Putting down his pen, he rolled his shoulders to ease the stiffness in them, then closed his eyes and rubbed the knot of muscles at the back of his neck. Damn. It was not even noon yet and here he was, wired tight as a crossbow and feeling as if he had not slept in days.

Javier moved his gaze back to his computer screen and cracked his knuckles. The quicker he completed his work, the smaller the possibility that he would be off work late. He put a mental note to stop by the flower shop on his way home and buy a bouquet of lilies for Ella. He would take her to their favorite restaurants where they had celebrated her birthday last month and he would make damn sure that everyone would be perfect.

Time truly fled when someone was occupied. Right when he was done reviewing the proposal for advertisement that his marketing team had sent him that afternoon, Clarabelle waltzed into his office. “Brother, I would love to stay here with you but it is five PM and I have a dinner plan at seven. I have to get more and get ready.”

“Is this another dinner with Brett?” he asked without bothering to lift his gaze off the contract.

“Um, not exactly,” his sister answered, sounding nervous and a little on the edge.

This time, he looked up and gave her his full attention. “Then who? You do not need to dress up if it were Reed or Maxon.”

“Yes, I still have to,” she sounded a little offended.

Javier raised one brow. “Dear Sister, I believe I saw you in your PJ pants and a hoodie eating steak with Reed a few weeks ago.”

“Fine.” Clarabelle rolled her eyes. “I did not really dress up for them.”
