Chapter 108 What’s Got That Guy So Tied Up

As long as Maren was still out there, Alexander couldn’t close his eyes peacefully at night.

He’d rather take the chance of killing the wrong person than let her slip away again.

“I’m deploying ten operatives from the Thanatos to Baimsa now. They’ll be at your place tonight to back you up. Don’t hesitate to eliminate Maren and wipe out the entire Morgan family.”

Brooks‘ face lit up. This was exactly the green light he’d been waiting on. But he couldn’t shake a flicker of concern. “Sir, what exactly is the Thanatos?”

“Congrats. Looks like you’ll finally be rid of your biggest headache,” Milo said. He had listened to the call, and now his face glowed with satisfaction.

“On it,” Milo responded quickly before rushing off. With visitors of that caliber, there was no room for error.

Once Milo was gone, Brooks found himself alone.

He reclined in his chair, crossed one leg over the other, and began humming a tune as he picked up Maren’s photo again.

“So tragic. A face like this… and soon to be gone. Maybe I’ll enjoy myself a bit before she dies.”

His mouth twisted into a grotesque grin.

Then came a sharp, searing pain in his chest. Brooks‘ eyes dropped in disbelief–his shirt was already stained crimson.

“I was going to let you live a little longer, but that last comment pushed your luck. I suppose you have to go a bit early now.”

Sawyer stood just behind the chair. No one had seen him come in. He’d slipped through unnoticed, like a wraith in the dark, and buried his knife straight into Brooks‘ heart. There wasn’t even time to cry out. Brooks slumped forward, lifeless.

Anyone who dared harm Maren was already dead–they just didn’t know it yet.

Sawyer didn’t spare the body a second glance. Unshaken, he turned and walked out of the room as if nothing had happened.

The Angels of Death’s headquarters, despite its tight security, might as well have had its doors wide open for him. No one noticed a thing.

Within minutes, Sawyer had vanished from the premises.

A car waited at the far corner of the street. Zane spotted him and jumped out as soon as Sawyer came into view.

“Boss, you’ve got a message and a call,” Zane said, handing over the phone.
