Chapter 29 A Field Combat
Assessment
Maren was fed up. She had just dealt with one annoying person, and now another one appeared. Were these pesky flies ever going to stop?
Handling Wilbur was proving to be a tougher challenge than Hannah, given his inflated self–esteem.
“Maren, I’m advising you to apologize to Nadia right now. As the dean’s student, it’s my responsibility to keep order here. Don’t force me to have you expelled.”
Wilbur’s tone was cold, his demeanor serious. Being Daniel’s student gave him a certain authority at the academy, even earning him respect from the faculty.
“Is ‘apologize‘ the only word in your vocabulary, Wilbur? Or is your head just filled with sawdust?”
Maren was dismissive of Wilbur, she had more important things to focus on.
“Look, I’m about to graduate. While you revel in being the dean’s student, I have zero interest in it. Just to be
clear once more, I don’t care about you, Wilbur, leave me alone”
“Stop it, Maren! Your constant defiance is getting on my nerves. Wilbur had reached his limit.
Maren’s relentless provocations and insults had pushed him too far, and he wasn’t going to tolerate it any longer.
“You seem to think bothering me will get my attention, but it’s actually pushing me away. Have you noticed that, Maren?”
Maren had previously always placed him at the forefront, going out of her way to gain his favor to the point he couldn’t stand it. However, everything had changed dramatically within a mere few days.
Wilbur found himself missing the old Maren, questioning his own sanity.
“Is that so? That’s good to hear because I’m happy you dislike me, Wilbur. Could you please keep away from me?” Maren responded curtly.
Wilbur was deeply wounded by Maren’s indifference.
“Maren, here’s one last chance. Apologize to Nadia now, and I’ll forgive you; I won’t avoid you. Isn’t that what
you’ve always wanted?”
Wilbur refused to believe Maren could have changed so drastically in such a short time.

He still struggled to come to terms with how Maren now treated him.
Sadly for him, Maren now viewed him as just another person.
“Wilbur, you greatly overrate your importance. The Maren you knew no longer exists. I’ve changed, and it’s
going to stay this way. I suggest you stop provoking me unless you’re ready for the consequences.”
Wilbur stood rooted to the spot, stunned by Maren’s abrupt dismissal. He was in disbelief over her words.
Nadia was equally perplexed, unsure if Maren was just putting on an act or had truly moved on. She vividly recalled the effort it took to lure Wilbur away from Maren, a feat that had not come easily.
“This applies to everyone.” Maren swept her gaze across the room.
Following Hannah’s mess, the classroom fell silent; no one dared to utter a sound.
“What the hell is going on here?”
A sharp sound broke the silence. Heels clicked aggressively down the hallway, signaling the arrival of a
formidable figure.
The students greeted, “Good morning Ms. Hinks!”
The woman was Rosaline Hinks, one of the instructors.
She did not bother to reply. Her gaze immediately found Hannah, who was disheveled on the floor. “Is
everyone here blind? Take her to the infirmary, now!”
“Right away, ma’am,” responded a couple of students, who hurried to assist Hannah.
Rosaline’s stern gaze then turned to Maren. “This is a military academy. We do not tolerate fighting here. And you dare to engage in violence openly?”
“She started it,” Maren responded with composure.
Rosaline was a familiar face to Maren, having been one of the instructors who deemed her unfit and facilitated her expulsion from the academy.
It seemed Rosaline had been warned of the incident before arriving.
