The second Lucien entered, a thick wave of tension swept over the Marshall family. Faces turned, scanning the doorway with nervous anticipation.

“Dad, I brought Dr. Schneider!”

Stepping aside, Lucien allowed Joseph to stride into the intensive care unit.

Leon’s limbs stiffened the instant he recognized Joseph. Hadn’t Higgs claimed the doctor was eliminated? Did something go wrong?

“That’s Dr. Schneider!” one of the doctors gasped.

The room buzzed with energy. Joseph was once the most celebrated mind in Voutsas‘ medical circles–none among them were unfamiliar with his reputation.

“We appreciate your presence, Mr. Schneider,” Kashton said with sincerity. He was fully aware Joseph had emerged at this late hour only to support his deal with Lucien.

Just then, Edwin barreled forward, desperation in his eyes. “Please help! My dad’s fading fast!”

Every second Lucien was away, Calvert’s health had worsened. None of the attending doctors could turn the tide. Time was no longer on their side.

“I need to check him first,” Joseph replied, already scanning the records handed to him.
