Chapter 324 Finish The Job Himself
Driven by an urgent need to understand the unfolding chaos, Higgs frantically tried contacting the group he’d dispatched to eliminate Joseph. One call after another met only silence–no voices, no answers.
Just like the operatives stationed at the factories on the outskirts of the city, these men had seemingly disappeared into thin air.
Refusing to accept the dead air as coincidence, Higgs attempted to reach the people at the factories again. Unsurprisingly, his efforts were met with the same result–nothing.
Repeated radio silence finally snapped Higgs into realization–something was terribly wrong.
Where had everyone vanished?
A wave of unease surged through him. Gritting his teeth, he tapped a contact on his phone–Shawn.
“What is it now? Do you know the time?” Shawn grumbled, clearly annoyed. In the background, a woman’s voice echoed faintly.
Understanding he’d interrupted something personal, Higgs responded cautiously, “Mr. Williams, I just wanted to ask–did you reassign the people you placed under my command?”
He wondered if the sudden absence had something to do with a redirection from Shawn.
“Reassign? What nonsense are you spouting? Your sole task is to take control of the Marshall family. Screw that up, and you’re finished.”
Shawn seemed both irritated and bewildered. Then, without further explanation, and clearly distracted, he disconnected.
“This isn’t good,” Higgs muttered to himself, lowering the device. A chilling suspicion crept in–his operatives might have been gotten rid of.
But by whom?
No one was supposed to know about his plan.
“Who was on the line?” Nadia’s voice cut through the room.
She’d noticed something odd–the rare note of submission in Higgs‘ tone. The call had been loud enough for her to catch the other man’s voice too.
He sounded like someone with authority over Higgs.
Until this moment, she’d assumed Higgs was the one pulling strings. But clearly, he answered to someone else.

“That’s irrelevant,” Higgs snapped, unwilling to open up.
“Alright. Still, you could clue me in a little.” Nadia didn’t push, but every bit of that exchange was already etched in her memory–especially the name Mr. Williams.
“The hit on Joseph didn’t work. Someone stepped in. I’m not sure who. He’s at the hospital now, trying to save Calvert. My father mentioned Joseph doesn’t sound optimistic,” Higgs admitted, his voice low with tension.
“So we’re just going to sit around and hope for the worst?” Nadia asked, visibly displeased with doing nothing
Should Calvert not survive, they might still regain control of the narrative. But if he pulled through, everything they’d worked for could unravel.
“We’re not going to wait idly. We’ll add more pressure,” Higgs said, rising from the bed and slipping into his
clothes.
He pulled open a drawer and took out a small vial containing a thick, moss–colored substance.
“That’s the same toxin you used on Calvert before, isn’t it?” Nadia said, recoiling slightly at the sight.
