Chapter 100
Valencia’s POV
Fuck.
I stared up at Dante, who stood towering in the doorway, his teal blue eyes shimmering with gold flecks as though lit from within. He looked entirely too pleased catching me in such an embarrassing moment, his lips tugging into a slow, amused smile.
“I–I was just hungry?” I stammered, trying desperately to come up with an excuse. My voice sounded unconvincing, even to myself. God, this was so stupid.
It had taken me forever to find this meeting room–why the hell did this floor have eight different meeting rooms anyway? Who needed so many? And after all that, I’d only caught the tail end of their conversation, something about Jaxon and Celeste’s marriage making things difficult. My curiosity had gotten the better of me again, and now I was caught like a kid
with their hand in the cookie jar.
I really should have learned my lesson from last time and not have snooped.
Dante tilted his head slightly, his smirk deepening as though he could read every single thought running through my head. “Shall we have an early lunch then?” he asked, his tone warm, inviting, but laced with that subtle hint of amusement that made my cheeks burn.
I nodded quickly, eager to move past the mortifying moment. “Sure.”
I glanced over Dante’s shoulder and caught Caius smirking at me, his expression downright smug. My embarrassment only
grew.
And then there was Aiden, seated stiffly at the table, looking… lost in thought? His furrowed brow and the way his silver eyes stared blankly ahead made it seem like he hadn’t even registered my awkward fall into the room.
Dante followed my gaze and turned slightly, his voice smooth as silk as he said, “How about you join us, dear brother–in–law? I’m sure you must be famished.”
The words “brother–in–law” felt strange, even to me. It was weird to think of Aiden, five years older than Dante, being addressed like that. Their auras were so different–Dante’s commanding and sharp, Aiden’s quieter, more restrained.
Aiden’s silver eyes snapped up, narrowing at Dante’s predatory smile, and provocative words, just as a low, unmistakable rumble echoed through the room.
I blinked, and then-
“Pfft-” Caius snorted, quickly covering his mouth with his hand.
Aiden’s stomach had grumbled. Loudly.
I bit back a laugh, pressing my lips together, but a small giggle escaped anyway. Aiden glared at both of us, his jaw tight, but his face was slightly red. Poor guy must have been starving.
But at least he had someone inviting him for lunch. Unlike me.
He said nothing and stood stiffly, following us as we left the meeting room and made our way to the family dining room on the third floor. As we walked, I excused myself to fetch Castor. I could feel his faint, restless thrum through our bond, and I

knew I wouldn’t be able to cat without having him close.
Once Castor was safely in my arms, I returned to the dining room and slid into the seat next to Dante. Caius, seated across from me, glanced around and frowned. “Where’s Marcy?”
I raised an eyebrow at him, leaning back slightly. “Why don’t you ask your brother? Isn’t he the boss?”
Dante, who had just opened his phone, looked up briefly before answering. “Mis–Marcelene has excused herself to visit her mother for Lunch.”
I smiled faintly at the way he corrected himself, clearly trying to seem less formal.
Curiosity got the better of me, and I couldn’t help but ask, “By the way… what exactly do you make Marcelene do for work?”
Dante gave me a sidelong glance, his eyes flickering to Aiden, who was sitting a bit too stiffly, eating his hummus and kuboos with exaggerated precision. Despite his attempts at proper etiquette, the speed at which he was eating gave him away. He was definitely starving.
“For now, she’s working as my assistant,” Dante said smoothly, “doing research and some odd jobs for me?
“For now?” pressed, tilting my head.
“I do have a more permanent position in mind for her. Operating one of our club establishments. But she needs to complete her studies first and be willing to travel outside the city regularly.”
My eyes widened slightly. I hadn’t expected that level of thoughtfulness. Most Alphas treated their Betas–especially female ones–as nothing more than workhorses, assigning them menial tasks and rarely taking their careers seriously. But Dante… Dante was different.
As cliché as it sounded, he really wasn’t like other Alphas.
Dante caught the look on my face, and his lips curved into a knowing smile. “I wasn’t just saying it for the sake of it when I said your friend has talent,” he said softly.

Caius huffed, crossing his arms. “Of course she has talent. But I really wish she had just a little bit of your empathy, too.” His tone was almost pouty, and I couldn’t help but laugh at the expression on his face.
Even though his words didn’t sit right with me.
What empathy did I have? I was just a normal person, just because I smiled more often then Marcy didn’t mean I was more compassionate, the habit of putting a front had just been ingrained in me since I was young. Marcy was definitely more empathetic than me, even if she never showed it on her face.
Dante ignored his brother’s whining, continuing, “I’ve already registered her with Silver Moon Academy. She can finish her studies while working as my assistant, and then we’ll go from there.”
