Valencia’s POV 

Dante’s mood had lifted considerably since yesterday. 

He was calmer now, his usual composed self, but there was a lightness to him that hadn’t been there before. 

I watched him from the corner of my eye as he worked on his laptop, his fingers moving fluidly over the keyboard. The sight of him so immersed in his work was oddly comforting, but it didn’t last long.

As though sensing my thoughts, Dante shut his laptop with a soft click and stood, walking toward me. His movements were graceful, purposeful, and when he came to stand behind me, I tensed slightly in anticipation. 

I had been struggling with the clasp of the diamond necklace he’d given me–a delicate thing with a soft shimmer that caught the light just so. His hands brushed against mine as he reached for it, gently pushing my hair aside. 

“Let me,” he murmured, his voice low and velvety. 

I swallowed hard, nodding silently as he deftly fastened the necklace around my neck. His fingers lingered for a moment before they trailed down to the mark he had left on me. 

The mate mark. 

The touch sent a shiver down my spine, and I felt him lean closer. His lips brushed against the mark, warm and tender, sending a wave of electricity through me. 

But when he turned me to face him, his expression wasn’t playful or teasing as I expected. Instead, he looked… pensive. 

“Is something wrong?” I asked softly, searching his face. 

He didn’t answer immediately. His thumb rubbed over the mark on my neck, his teal–blue eyes dark and unreadable. Then, almost too quietly, he said the words that made my breath catch and my heart pound like a war drum. 

“I love you.” 

I froze, the weight of his confession crashing over me. There was no hesitation in his tone, no wavering. Just pure, sincerity. 

My face burned as I met his gaze, the intensity in his eyes stealing whatever words I might have said. 

Why was he saying this now of all times?

For a moment, I didn’t know how to respond. My mind was racing, my emotions a chaotic whirlwind. Should I say it back should, shouldn’t I? 

I opened my mouth reflexively, ready to blurt out “I love you too,” but then I stopped. My eyes widened. 

Reflexive. 

That’s what it was. A reflex. A phrase I had said so many times before to Jaxon without truly meaning it A hollow thing devoid of the depth and weight it deserved. 

But this.. this was different.

Dante’s love wasn’t something fleeting or shallow. It wasn’t just words. It was in the way he looked at me, the way he cared for me, the way he put my safety and happiness above his own.. 

The realization made my chest ache, and my hands trembled slightly as I tried to gather my thoughts. 

Dante, however, seemed to take my silence as something else entirely. His voice trembled ever so slightly as he continued, “I’m not saying this for a response, Valencia. This is just a fact. And it won’t change… whether the feelings are mutual or not.” 

“No,” I blurted, my eyes wide as I tried to explain. “I lov-” 

But before I could finish, his lips captured mine in a kiss that stole whatever words I had left. It was tender, desperate, and filled with an ache that made my heart twist painfully in my chest. 

When he pulled back, his eyes bore into mine, searching for something I couldn’t name. “I marked you and claimed you to be physically mine,” he said softly. “Even if it made me an asshole for forcing this upon you. But you have a hold on my heart, and I would love for you to claim me too–but not unless you truly mean it.” 

His words left me speechless. 

Claim him? 

Was he saying what I think he was saying? 

Did he want me to mark him? 

An Omega marking an Alpha was rare–so rare that I had only ever heard of it happening a handful of times. 

Alpha’s were by Supernatural law allowed to have multiple partners, unlike Omega’s, so it was never questioned if they didn’t want to be marked. 

Most Alphas didn’t allow it, as it bound them completely to their mate, making it impossible for them to be with anyone 

else. 

Raiden was one of the few Alpha’s I knew, who had been marked by his Omega. 

In my past life, Jaxon had marked me almost immediately, but he had never allowed me to mark him in return. It wasn’t expected. 

But Dante… Dante was giving me that choice. He was willing to let me claim him, to bind him to me fully and irrevocably. The enormity of it left me reeling, and before I could process it fully, the pilot’s voice crackled over the intercom, announcing that we were preparing to land.
