Chapter 11 

Valencia’s POV 

The room froze. 

Jaxon’s words hung in the air like a death knell, silencing everyone, even my racing thoughts. My pulse thundered in my cars as 1 stared at him, horrified. 

“I’m willing to take responsibility for her,” he had said, his tone alm, as though he were doing something noble. 

Finally, Roman Wolfe, the Pack Alpha, broke the silence with a sharp bark of laughter. “Insolence! The Wolfe heir will NOT be courting a disgrace.” 

Relief swept through me for a brief, fleeting moment. 

“I understand your concern, Father, Jaxon replied smoothly, bowing his head in mock deference. “But I assure you, I do not intend to claim her as my mate. Simply as a concubine. As a courtesy to Uncle Drogo for his family’s loyal service to the pack

The sirens in my head blared louder than ever, and I shot to my feet. “I refuse!” 

Gasps rippled through the room. My heart pounded as all eyes turned to me, their shock and fury palpable. 

“You insolent child!” My father’s voice thundered, his Alpha dominance washing over me like a crushing wave. “How dare you speak to the Alpha like that? Apologize this instant!” 

My knees buckled, and I fell to the floor under the weight of his command. Tears stung my eyes as I struggled to form the words he demanded, my jaw clenched in defiance. “My apologies. Lord Alpha, I ground out through gritted teeth. 

Roman’s cold gaze settled on me. 

“Stand up and look at me.” 

The Alpha command struck again, and my body moved against my will, rising to face him. My legs shook as I straightened, but I kept my eyes downcast.

dare to refuse my son’s gracious offer,” Roman said, his voice like ice, “I ask that you provide a proper reason,” 

My mind raced. What could I say? What reason would they accept? Love? No, that excuse was laughable in a pack that thrived on political and loveless marriages. 

Then it hit me. 

Taking a steadying breath, I bowed my head, feigning heartbreak and sadness. “My apologies, Lord Alpha,” I began, my voice trembling just enough to sound genuine. But I cannot in good conscience accept it. I’m afraid if Alpha Jaxon takes me as his concubine, my wretched fate might rub off on him.” 

A ripple of discomfort spread through the room, the weight of my words hanging heavy in the air. 

Jaxon scowled, his voice sharp. “What do you mean? Speak clearly!” 

I took a deep breath, forcing my voice to steady, “Not long ago, I stopped having my monthly moon time. After a discreet doctor’s appointment, I was told that I am infertile.” 

Gasps echoed around the room, the weight of my statement landing like a hammer.

The funny part was that they trusted the words of a maid more than they had trusted me. Because alas, I was the daughter of a maid who was previouslya sex worker. A wretched whore. 

The room was still, everyone too shocked to speak. I took the opportunity to bow deeply and excuse myself. “Thank you for your time, Lord Alpha. I will take my leave.” 

As I turned to leave, my eyes merJaxon’s. His gaze burned with fury, his jaw tight, but a small, defiant smirk tugged at the comer of my lips, 

Even after disgracing myself, I couldn’t explain the exhilaration that coursed through me. The taste of freedom felt sharp and intoxicating. For the first time, I had felt like I had won against him 

I walked through the corridors, my steps slow and deliberate, watching the pack soldiers train in the grounds below. Their movements were fluid, purposeful, and free. A soft smile graced my lips as 1 descended the stairs. 

The moment was cut short when I collided with something–or rather, someone. 

The scent of mint and citrus infiltrated my senses, and I stumbled back, bracing for the impact of the floor. But it never 

came. 

Strong hands caught me, steadying me before I could fall. Lightcy blue eyes stared down at me, a flicker of disdain in their depths. 

I stared at cherry red bangs that fluttered across her forehead, my heart pounding for a completely different reason now. 

Memories of a stubborn and rude beta instantly bombarded me 

“Marcelene?” I whispered, my voice trembling with disbelief. 

“You know who I am?” she asked, her voice sharp, guarded, 

Tears pricked the corners of my eyes, and before I could stop myself, I threw my arms around her, hugging her tightly. Her body stiffened in surprise, but I didn’t care.
