Dante rolled his eyes, the corners of his lips twitching in amusement. “You’re overthinking it, Valencia. How long have you two even been friends?”
The limousine had been driving for about five minutes now, the gentle hum of the engine filling the quiet space. I had my arms crossed, still digesting what Klaus had told me.
“More than two months!” I huffed, shifting in my seat. “I know they were friends before we ran aw–left. Which means that douchebag dumped her during that time and Marcy didn’t even tell me?”
Dante exhaled through his nose, his head resting against the leather headrest. “Maybe he wasn’t that important to her, he mused. “She didn’t care much? Caius is my brother, and even I don’t know about most of the relationships he’s had over the years.”
I hesitated, rolling his words around in my mind. That was possible. But then a different thought crept in.
What if Marcy’s hesitance in being with Caius wasn’t just about the fact that the Steele pack killed her family in the past? What if her past dating experiences had scarred her in ways I hadn’t noticed?
Maybe it was hard for her to trust someone again. Just like it had been hard for me to trust Dante after my experience with Jaxon
The thought lingered, unsettling, but before I could dwell on it further, a sharp movement from the other side of the limousine caught my attention.
Seven, who had been lying still just moments ago, jerked upright His breath hitched, and then he hissed as if in pain, his hand flying toward the fresh bandages on his head.
I was already moving before I even thought about it, leaning toward him with concern. “Be careful,” I warned, my voice softer than usual. “You just got stitches.”
His reaction was instant.
He flinched.
His wide eyes darted to me, and he moved back, pressing himself against the seat like a cornered animal.
I froze.
My hands lifted instinctively in a gesture of surrender. “I’m sorry” I said quickly, my voice light. “I’ll move back.”
It was… strange.
Strange to see someone afraid of me.
Usually, I was the one afraid. I was the one shrinking away, bracing for pain or harsh words.
And yet, watching Seven retreat into himself, his thin shoulders curled inward, something inside me twisted in a way I couldn’t explain.
It made me want to protect him.

The boy was young, barely eighteen, and already he had the posture of someone used to taking hits–someone used to expecting the worst.
“Ms. Valencia?” His voice was shaky, uncertain. “What am I doing here?”
His wide red eyes darted around the dimly lit interior of the limousine as if expecting the answers to appear out of thin air.
I pressed my lips together, suddenly at a loss for words.
I didn’t know what to say.
So I turned to Dante, silently asking for help.
Dante gave me a reassuring nod before shifting his attention to Seven. His voice was calm, steady–almost casual. “We’re headed to the Steele pack. Jaxon harmed you, which caused bloodshed. Since that’s against Slave Law, Alpha Selene made him take responsibility and make amends.“”
Seven’s brows furrowed, his fingers curling slightly in his lap. “By selling me to the S–Steele pack?”
Dante shook his head and began explaining in more detail–how Jaxon had been forced to reduce his freedom price, and how he had paid for his release. Though he didn’t tell him the actual price that he paid.
Seven nodded along slowly, his posture still tense.
Then, after a long pause, he straightened his back completely–his spine rigid, his head tilted downward in submission. My chest tightened at the sight.
I hated it.
“I understand,” Seven said quietly. Then, after a brief hesitation, he added, “Thank you. What would you like me to refer to you as, Master?”
My breath caught in my throat.
My head snapped toward Dante, eyes wide, shaking my head slightly. No.
Dante seemed to understand immediately.
“I am not your master,” he said firmly. “You are not a slave anymore. I’ll sign the document and remove your reach home.”
Seven froze.
His breath stalled, his lips parting slightly as he stared at Dante in stunned silence.
I saw the moment realization crept in.

His fingers twitched against his lap. His lips pressed together as if processing something too large to comprehend.
Then, he shook his head.
“As you say, but His voice cracked slightly. “I still have a debt to repay you.”

Dante leaned toward me slightly, lowering his voice so only I could hear. “He won’t be able to understand this yet,” he murmured. “It’s too new. Since he’s used to taking commands, is better for you to command him. Or else it’ll make him

“Since we have decided to set you free,” I said carefully, “you will accept the blessing and not question it.”
The words felt foreign in my mouth, like something I shouldn’t be saying. But Dante’s hand rested lightly against my knee, a silent reassurance through our bond.
Seven blinked, his head lifting slightly. He seemed unsure. Suspicious, even.
He hesitated.
Then, finally, he gave a slow nod. “Oh.” His voice was quiet, his posture relaxing just a little. “So I don’t need to call you Master?”
Dante shook his head.
I offered him a small smile. “No. You can just call us by our names.”
Seven’s head snapped up so quickly I thought he might have hurt himself.
“What?” His red eyes were wide with alarm. “Oh no, I couldn’t-
I sighed, suddenly feeling helpless.
