Chapter 140
Valencia’s POV:
“Well, yeah. I kind of understand,” 1 admitted, my fingers absently tracing the smooth edge of the table. “After everything people said about my mom, I was afraid of learning about her. What if she turned out to be a horrible person? What if she never wanted me?”
Seven, who had been flipping through a book absentmindedly, looked up. “Didn’t you say Alpha Selene knew her?”
I nodded, recalling the brief, unexpected conversation. “Yeah, but we didn’t get the chance to talk much. All she told me was that my mother worked as a dancer and that she was a good person.” I hesitated before adding, “She also said Aurora and my mother were very similar.”
Dante tilted his head, his golden eyes narrowing slightly. “Yeah…do you think she meant something by that?”
I shrugged, running a hand through my hair as I tried to piece it together. “I don’t know… maybe she meant they had similar personalities? That they both had good character?”
Dante hummed in thought, tapping his fingers against the armrest of his chair.
“You can ask her more at the wedding, right?” Seven suggested, glancing between us. “I’m sure Alpha Selene will be invited. You can take that chance to talk to her.”
I sighed, mumbling, “Probably.”
Just then, the elevator dinged, and the sound of approaching footsteps echoed down the hall. A door clicked open, and moments later, Sir Joseph stepped into the room, carrying a glass tray stacked with small plates and steaming food.
The rich, savory scent of chili oil and crisped dough filled the air, making my stomach let out a loud, shameless growl.
“Dumplings!” I practically beamed, my mood lifting immediately as I spotted the plate of perfectly pan–fried dumplings, crisp on the bottom and sprinkled with fresh spring onions.
Dante chuckled, clearly amused by my reaction. “Let’s eat first,” he said, motioning for everyone to sit.
Seven quietly set the books aside, clearing space as he unfolded a plastic sheet over the table. Meanwhile, Sir Joseph arranged small plates for each of us before taking his seat across from me.
I wasted no time, grabbing my chopsticks and picking up a dumpling, the hot steam wafting up as I bit into the delicate, flavorful filling.
Halfway through my second dumpling, I glanced at Seven. “You should eat too,” I told him between bites. “Aren’t you hungry?”
Seven hesitated for a second before nodding and reaching for his own plate. He was still getting used to this–sitting at the table as an equal rather than someone who waited to be given permission. But I was proud of how far he had come.
Sir Joseph, however, remained quiet as Dante slid and folded note across the table toward him.
Sir Joseph picked it up, his brow furrowing as he read the two lines written on the slip of paper.
Dante leaned back slightly, his voice calm but direct. “Are you the mole?”
I choked on my food.
Even Seven stopped mid–motion, his chopsticks frozen in the air.

Chapter 140
Did he really just ask that outright? And even if Joseph was the mole, was he just supposed to confess casually over dumplinger
Sir Joseph didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he set the paper down neatly beside his plate, his sharp eyes meeting Dante’s.
“If I was,” he said slowly, “what would you do?”
Dante’s expression didn’t change. His voice remained unnervingly steady. “Send you back to the Wolfe pack and rescind your freedom papers”
My breath hitched slightly.
Freedom papers?
Wait–was Sir Joseph a slave? That didn’t make sense. He was a wolf–an Alpha at that. It was rare, if not outright unheard of, for an Alpha to be enslaved.
Joseph’s posture stiffened, his fingers tightening minutely around the edge of his plate before he exhaled slowly.
“Raiden told you?”
Dante shook his head. “No. I was just testing you.” His lips curled slightly. “But it seems my guess was correct.
I should not have found that so attractive, but damn.
There was just something about intellectually sharp men that did something for me.
Joseph let out a quiet, humorless chuckle. “You two have been a force of nature since childhood. Completely like your father when he was young” He paused, his expression nostalgic. “However, sorry to disappoint you–I’ve been banned from ever contacting or going anywhere near the Wolfe pack. But you already knew that. So why ask such an obvious question?”
Dante remained unfazed, idly running his fingers over Castor’s shell as he shifted in his seat. “Tell me what happened twenty–eight years ago.
Joseph’s expression darkened slightly, his jaw tightening. “Does this have anything to do with your idea of rebuilding‘ the Wolfe pack?”
Dante’s voice softened, “Yes”
Joseph exhaled sharply, rubbing his forehead as if trying to decide where to begin.
“I’m not sure exactly what you want to know,” he admitted after a moment. “But twenty–nine years ago… I was gifted to the Nightwalker Pack by the Wolfe pack.”
I blinked. “Gifted?”
Joseph nodded. “By Roman Wolfe himself.”
Something about that phrasing sent a chill down my spine.
“You were his slave?” I asked, unable to keep the shock from my voice.
Joseph shook his head. “Not quite. I was bought by him–but only for the purpose of being gifted to someone else.” His voice remained even, but there was an unmistakable weight behind his words.
I frowned. “Who?”
“The Bellwood family,” he said, his eyes flickering with something unreadable.

I’froze.
Lethia Bellwood’s family.
“You mean the Nightwalker Pack?” I clarified.

Joseph nodded. “Yes. Lethia Bellwood was already engaged to Drogo Kallistar at the time. This was supposed to be her last trip with her family before her marriage.” His lips pressed into a thin line. “But she wasn’t the only one traveling with them. Tatiana Wolfe–the Nightwalker Alpha’s daughter–was there too. Tatiana was actually the one I was for.”
